What prompted you to seek tutoring?

Varsity Tutors helped our son raise his SAT over 100 points, and his ACT 3 points, which resulted in being accepted at all of the schools he applied to. We were very happy with our instructor and will definitely utilize VT again for our other children.

My son's verbal score went up 160 points from the PSAT to SAT. His instructor Lydia was extremely professional and knowledgeable and he responded well to her. She kept him focused on what was important and gave him very helpful hints. He went into the test feeling very confident and prepared.

— Jennifer

How much of a SAT score increase are you looking for?

I would recommend my instructor to any student who is in need of help for their SAT. She taught me so many new ways of analyzing questions and intricate problems. I would not have been prepared for my SAT without her! Thank you so much!

SAT Tutoring review by Stephen in Thousand Oaks, CA
We briefly reviewed the student's SAT scores. I had the student run through a practice SAT math exam; we started by discussing some SAT math "strategies" to shorten the time needed to solve questions. Student did a great job with the math. Noted several areas for improvement, specifically geometry, functions, and "higher" algebra. Next, we worked through portions of a practice SAT test. Subsequent sessions: keep up with the math, since the student intends to study chemical engineering, but really focus on the writing.

SAT Tutoring review by Walter in Thousand Oaks, CA
We worked on grammar and critical reading. His main stumbling block remains the test itself--the way the questions are asked and how to read the answers is still a problem for him. This is something we need to look at closely in the next few weeks. As always, he puts in his best effort.

SAT Tutoring review by Sean in Thousand Oaks, CA
We reviewed through math strategy and continued on with the content (coordinate geometry, functions, circle sectors, ratios, sequences, and more). The student handled these with relative ease and only erred on the most difficult problems. He also handled the practice math section from the SAT guide very well. We wrapped things up with a slew of sentence completion problems from critical reading. He did well here as well, only tripping up on the most difficult vocabulary words. I recommended that he, on a continuous basis, review through SAT vocabulary. He should do a practice section of math and/or writing on his own.

SAT Tutoring review by Folami in Thousand Oaks, CA
The student had taken her test. We discussed test zone strategies. We worked on math practice problems, such as common base problems, substitution, and exponential rules. Overall, she understood the concepts and was able to apply them. Her next assignment is another test and we will review difficult problems during our next session.

SAT Tutoring review by Jung Hoon in Thousand Oaks, CA
The student has improved significantly in math. I am pleased to see his growth over the past few weeks. We worked on math sections that he caught up very easily and on pace. There were a few challenging problems, but he managed to find his footing and work on them diligently.

SAT Tutoring review by Jean in Thousand Oaks, CA
The student has made significant progress. Annotating has helped him understand how to really read for meaning and the relationship of ideas throughout passages. On his last practice test, he got 39/52 correct answers (vs. the 30/52 he initially got). His weak point is still vocabulary, so I'm glad he is getting a vocab flashcard set to help him out. I'm looking forward to the next lesson, in which we're going over the third practice test. The third test is a little harder to do, but we will see how well he does.
