Varsity Tutors helped our son raise his SAT over 100 points, and his ACT 3 points, which resulted in being accepted at all of the schools he applied to. We were very happy with our instructor and will definitely utilize VT again for our other children.

SAT Tutoring review by Benny in Santa Clara, CA
We covered the mathematics section for the first time. We will work on her comfort level in interpreting the questions for this section, and in increasing her calculator usage. I assigned homework in her workbook to complete several pages of practice math questions.

SAT Tutoring review by Sean in Santa Clara, CA
We reviewed a handful of math problems in coordinate geometry and functions; he had a quick handle of these. We then reviewed all grammatical concepts, doing several example problems for each in both error ID and improving sentences. He also understood the rules and only needed some prompting on collective nouns and faulty comparisons. With a few more practice rounds, he handled these well. We wrapped up with sentence completions, where he got the hang of the format quickly enough. Once he brushes up on some more vocabulary, he will have zero problem with these. I recommended that he do at least a practice section each from writing and math.

SAT Tutoring review by Ruth in Santa Clara, CA
Corrected and scored the student's practice test and finished the last two sections. She scored a 480-540 on math, 450-510 on reading, and 470-600 on writing. I noticed she needs to work on her vocab to supplement her vocabulary cards, so we spent our session working on strategies including approaches to two-blank questions, identifying transitional and introductory phrases and process of elimination. I assigned practice test #5 for our next session.

SAT Tutoring review by Adam in Santa Clara, CA
I explained some grammar topics to him (e.g., pronoun case). Then we worked through a whole math section, during which I reviewed with him some of the topics we've discussed so far and taught him some other basic strategies. We worked through another long passage as well, which he pretty much aced, then some more writing work.

SAT Tutoring review by Mrunali in Santa Clara, CA
We had an in-depth discussion of common writing mistakes: what they are, examples & non-examples, and how to look for them. For example, parallelism is especially important for comparisons and lists. We also went through specific math concepts that posed issues for both of them, namely probability and 3D geometry.

SAT Tutoring review by Patrick in Santa Clara, CA
The student and I made great use of our time. I am very pleased with the level with which she grasps the mathematics. For critical reading, I helped her to strategize her approach to answering the questions through compartmentalization: questions touch on a variety of topics like the meaning of a word in context, the purpose of a phrase, the author's tone, etc.
