Varsity Tutors helped our son raise his SAT over 100 points, and his ACT 3 points, which resulted in being accepted at all of the schools he applied to. We were very happy with our instructor and will definitely utilize VT again for our other children.

SAT Tutoring review by Heather in Aurora, CO
The girls and I went over their homework, then warmed up with the vocabulary portion of a reading section. I also timed them on a writing section. Both girls finished the section well within the time limit, but continue to make minor errors. I have encouraged them to either read the problems aloud or read them to each other, since the brain has a tendency to make automatic corrections when processing reading material. We also completed the majority of a math section, which they continue to improve upon.

SAT Tutoring review by Hillary in Aurora, CO
Today, the student and I started by finishing up a reading passages section from Monday. Then, we worked through a math multiple choice and pretty tough math grid-in section together, where I got to really brush up on my factoring. We spent the rest of our time working through some sentence corrections and a few more reading passages.

At today's session, the student and I went over the basics of how to work with percentages, and did a number of practice percentage-problems. I think that it will be important for the student to continue to practice working with percentages, as they still seem a little bit unfamiliar to him.

SAT Tutoring review by Todd in Aurora, CO
We focused today on the verbal sections. We went over some problem solving strategies for sentence completion (process of elimination, identifying the tone or connotation of the missing words, and identifying sentence shifters). We did some sample questions. Next we did a practice section of long passage reading questions. The student did well with these. He missed a few of the trickier questions, but overall his answers were largely correct. We then did a sample problem set of grammar correction questions which were more difficult for the student. I assigned him some practice sections in the study guide to work on these areas, which we will revisit during our next session.

SAT Tutoring review by Ami in Aurora, CO
This was my first meeting with the student, and although she did not have a chance to take a full-length practice test prior to the session, she had taken a critical reading and a math section. We went over these sections and talked about what aspects she struggled with the most, and I talked about some general strategies that she could try. We also worked on some SAT vocabulary words and talked about how to approach the SAT essay.

SAT Tutoring review by Robert in Aurora, CO
Today was my first session with the student. We started off with math. We went through a section of the PSAT that she took at the beginning of the year. Working through each question step by step, I was able to help her work her way through the problems. She kept a positive and persistent attitude. I was able to identify some areas where she needs extra attention as well as some of her strengths. Once we finished with the math, we spent the remaining half hour going through a practice section for reading. Again, we went through each question, and I was able to give her some strategy tips for answering similar questions. All in all, it was a productive session. We set the framework for future sessions to come, and I enjoyed getting to know her.
