Mr. D. was able to keep my daughter engaged and interested the entire session. He made her feel confident with reading. She stated that he was the "best teacher in the world". She gave him two thumbs up and a heart. I'm very pleased with my investment towards my child's education using Varsity Tutors.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

How can a Reading tutor help you?

Being able to read opens up a world to a child. Knowing how to understand once-incomprehensible symbols is magical for a child, and they may feel like they may more openly participate with the planet around them. The concepts and strategies behind learning how to read may become overwhelming for many students, and they may feel that they're missing out. They may not be able to focus on their studies when they're around other students, or they may feel like their teacher is moving at too quick of a pace. Either way, they may feel disillusioned with learning about how to read, but it doesn't have to be like this. Your child may learn how to read by having a private tutor available, someone to try to stay engaged with the fascinating subject and skill. For assistance in connecting with an experienced reading tutor in Sacramento, CA, contact Varsity Tutors. Your child may learn how to read effectively and thoroughly, and they may begin to truly appreciate the ability.

Varsity Tutors' educational directors may find your child a reading tutor in Sacramento who may work at their pace. Your child's tutor may be able to assess the specific areas that they struggle with, and may then be able to create lesson plans that center around these challenging topics. Your child may also ask their tutor questions as they have them, and won't have to compete for the attention of a teacher like they might have to in a classroom. Your child's tutor loves reading, and is passionate about the subject. They may do everything they may to instill your child with this passion, which may make understanding reading that much more important and engaging for them.

Reading Tutoring review by Catie in Sacramento, CA
Today we started out by going over the sight word cards again. The only word that hasn't been mastered yet is the word "whose." After this, we read the first chapter in his new chapter book. We then worked on a level N book which is a step up from previous and he did very well. Letting him pick the book from a list of options that I have has proven to be beneficial to getting him excited about reading. We ending by working on comprehension with this level N book.

Reading Tutoring review by Sherry in Sacramento, CA
The student read chapters 7 & 8 from his book on Davey Crockett. He also read 2 essays, "Trouble in the Coral Reefs" and "Beaver Dams" from "Nonfiction Reading Comprehension". He answered reading comprehension questions correctly. He will read "Mount Rushmore" for homework. His teacher mentioned that the student needs to practice writing.

Reading Tutoring review by Tiffany in Sacramento, CA
The student took the first of his assessments today. We focused on vocab. I found a rug in his playroom that had a little city on it, so we started working on naming what was on the map and within the city. I focused on words that were either the noun form of a verb (swing), or compound words comprised of obvious words, like Fireman, Firetruck, and concepts like gas station, etc. He started to read Go Dog Go - which I wanted to hear him read to hear his progress from day one. Tomorrow I will bring him words and see if he can tell me what they probably are, like "can opener."

Reading Tutoring review by Glen in Sacramento, CA
Completed three level 5 lessons. The student answered 23 of 30 questions correctly. I am confident that his reading and comprehension is improving, even if only in small steps. As he approaches his driving test (end of this month) and eventual attempt at the assessment, I believe it's critical that he continues to be exposed to regular reading sessions. He also needs to make it a habit to read more outside our meetings.

Reading Tutoring review by Julie in Sacramento, CA
After introductions I asked the student to read 2 selections for me: one fiction and one non-fiction. He read two stories. He reads very well. Before the first story he made a prediction without a prompt from me. He reads with great expression. While reading he likes to add sounds to the story and discuss parts of the story with me. After reading aloud I asked him some comprehension questions. I asked him to write out his answers. I also asked him to add 3 sentences to the first story we read. We discussed setting and how to determine what a word means from context clues. The student has a great imagination and personality.
