Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

Session Summaries by Reading Tutors

Reading Tutoring review by Sam in Hillsboro, OR
Today, the student read at an extremely high level. We began the session by finishing the story she had been reading for the past couple of weeks. This section of story contained many of the same word types that she struggled with yesterday; however, today, she made many of the adjustments that we talked about yesterday and was able to read many words she struggled with yesterday, with no assistance today. She was also able to stumble through her most recent "large word accomplishment" extraordinarily. We began a new story today as well. This new story is a step up in difficulty, but she was handling the new words very well.

Reading Tutoring review by Earl in Hillsboro, OR
Today, the student worked on homework in science, Italian, and math. He was able to do the math homework with little assistance. Italian homework consisted of translating numbers from English to Italian, which he worked on successfully. Lastly he had to complete 2 fill in the blank worksheets from his science class. He did well during tutoring, but he must stay focused and organized, and remember to bring all necessary materials home with him.

Reading Tutoring review by Chandoue in Hillsboro, OR
We reviewed spelling words using appropriate sentences. The student did much better forming sentences with been and their. We also reviewed telling time. She is good at telling time to the hour but has difficulty telling time to the half hour or being able to tell time using the hour hand only. We have made progress in the sense that she now knows that if the hour hand is 'between' two numbers then the minute hand will not be on the 12. We will continue to work on this. We reviewed all short vowel sounds using picture recognition. Using Dolch sight words, she had to fill in the missing words for several simple sentences. Her reading and fluency is improving.

Reading Tutoring review by Emily in Hillsboro, OR
The student had read chapter 8 of the Lost Hero and written down two main events. After going over her main events and doing a tell-back of chapter 8, we moved into chapter 9. We read through the chapter together, and we stopped for tell-backs every two pages. We are still using the Sweep Sweep Spell strategy when she gets stuck on a word, and she has been very successful with this strategy. We discussed vocabulary in context, and at the end of the chapter, I asked her to write down three main events for chapter 9. This was her homework. I also assigned her to read chapter 10, but we will write the main events together.

We worked on subject/predicate agreement, proofreading, paragraph structure, and main idea and details. The student was great about checking her work, and when I told her how many of each type of error was in the paragraph, she reread until she had it perfect!
