Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

Session Summaries by Reading Tutors

Reading Tutoring review by Adriane in Albany County, NY
The student continued to work on her book about ocean animals today, adding one new page about two new animals. The book itself is slow going, but she is learning a lot from doing it: she now knows how to use the library card catalog, she knows how to use an index to find specific information inside a book, and she is getting very good at paraphrasing information. This is all great progress.

Reading Tutoring review by Brittany in Albany County, NY
The student and I split the session between math and reading. We worked on fractions and division. He drew images of each fraction and inferred if a fraction was greater than, equal to, or less than another fraction. He and I also worked on division. He was able to make the connection between times table and division. He is struggling to divide when there is a remainder number. We will continue to work on division next session. He and I worked on vocabulary words for school. He read the definitions out loud and we discussed examples for each word. After writing sample sentences, he knew the definitions of all of his words.

Student A worked on his adverb assignment as well as reading through The Giver more. I worked with Student B on a reading comprehension exercise, and then moved on to reading some of a fiction book and discussing what type of book he would like to read starting the next session.

Reading Tutoring review by Genie in Albany County, NY
We are continuing with the lesson plan, reading from the same book. The student needed reminders about slowing down, taking a pause with the periods. But in general she was reading well. We are working on sounding out the words she doesn't know. We reviewed some of the difficult words from the index cards from last week. This week she correctly read them in the text. We are working on slowing down and sounding syllable by syllable. We also worked on color cards, reading the words on the cards and playing other memory games with the names of the colors. It was a productive session and I feel she is making slow but steady progress.

In this session, the student continued reading from her book, 'Ivy and Bean and the Ghost That Had To Go.' She read very fluently and with expression. She read pages 18 to 38, feeling positively about her reading and our discussion of the book's characters and their behavior.

Reading Tutoring review by Jacquelyn in Albany County, NY
The first half of the hour was with Student 1. We reviewed two pages of her homework, which focused on reading comprehension. She then completed three worksheets that I made for her, consisting of synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms. Then it was Student 2's turn, and we read a book about the Jedi! He did it all by himself, and then I asked him to write down all the words he could remember reading. He wrote Jedi, force, learn, must, and strength.
