PSAT Tutoring review by Kristyn in Santa Clarita, CA
The student brought his completed assigned English sections (2 passages). We talked about a couple of techniques to control his pacing through English passages. Next we worked with Reading. He is a fairly fast reader, and therefore has little trouble with the passages themselves. He seems to be doing well in Science. Overall on the 4 passages we worked through, he averaged a 81%, which is significantly higher than his previous ACT score. This week I assigned fewer passages as he anticipated it being a heavy school work week. For homework, he has 2 English passages and a Reading passage to complete, as well as some reading about how to write an ACT essay.

PSAT Tutoring review by Katie in Santa Clarita, CA
In today's session, the student and I targeted the question types he missed on his recent Evidence-Based Reading section practice, specifically Inference and Command-of-Evidence questions. We discussed methods of approach for Inference questions and worked through several sample passages and questions accordingly. In the second half of our session, we discussed a strategy for approaching paired passages on the SAT and worked through a sample paired passage set and its subsequent questions. I've asked him to complete the revision of his essay response (as assigned in our last session) as well as a Writing and Language section prior to our next session on Tuesday.

PSAT Tutoring review by Mahlena-Rae in Santa Clarita, CA
My third GED tutoring session with the student went well. He completed his essay, and we reviewed it together. He did a good job with organization of paragraphs, even though each paragraph only contained an average of two sentences. I encouraged him to aim for four sentences in each paragraph and to use more transitional phrases. Then, we moved to the Interpreting Nonfiction and Information Text section in the test prep GED guide. I timed him as he read the passages and answered the questions. He moved more efficiently and effectively through each section when he was timed. So I suggested that as he practices in the book, he should time himself on each section. For our next tutoring session, he will complete a GED essay using the preparation and outlining methods we discussed and complete more reading comprehension passages in his GED guide.

Our first book club went well! The student had started a new mystery book, and we talked about some books I read this week. We then did some non-multiple choice SAT Math questions. The student mostly struggles with figuring out how to solve these problems. I assigned her some SAT Reading homework.
