Today we covered trigonometric functions and also factorials and summations. I taught her how to use her graphing calculator correctly for sigma and factorials. But she also seemed to have a good understanding of the material without using the calculator. We did a few practice problems from the book and completed her homework assignment. I told her to continue practicing problems from the book to study for her upcoming quiz.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Morenike in Sandy Springs, GA
Started off the session by asking about the test she took on Friday. She expressed that she blanked on some easy concepts but felt she did okay. We finished her chapter 10.1 homework on standard form of ellipses and finding tangent line to ellipses. She was able to do most the homework without much struggle. She is supposed to continuing practicing problem, like the ones on her homework, so she can complete the problems without looking at examples for guidance.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Andreas in Sandy Springs, GA
The first student wanted to review the concepts regarding the binomial theorem and sequences/series. We reviewed how to use Pascal's triangle and factorial a to expand binomials, and we covered the equations used in sequences and did a few example problems together. He seemed to feel more comfortable with the topics by the end of the session. I also spent time with the second student, who wanted to review an array of topics to prep for his placement test. We went through different examples, showing him how to solve each one. While more time was needed for him to grasp certain topics, the session seemed to help reinforce concepts.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Michael in Sandy Springs, GA
Today we went over the student's quiz on limits and reviewed the chapter on limits for her math exam. We talked about the different ways to solve limit problems (such as eliminating the trig function term, or dividing the numerator and denominator by the highest degree polynomial). We also reviewed a little thermal physics for her test on Thursday, discussing efficiencies of Carnot cycles being due to the lack of heat transfer from one object to another.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Joe in Sandy Springs, GA
The student was ecstatic at the beginning of the session; she had earned her first A in the class. This supports the idea that the tutoring sessions have provided her with the conceptual catch-up that she needed and have been helping her improve her class grade. During this session, we discussed the rational zero theorem and Descartes' rule of signs. We did some synthetic division problems form the homework. Next time, we will focus on the fundamental theorem of algebra, the conjugate root theorem, and complex conjugates.
