Session Summaries by Pre-Calculus Tutors

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Brent in Manhattan, NY
We reviewed concepts in arithmetic and geometric series. We practiced these concepts by reviewing the study guide and completing problems from the textbook. We tied some of these concepts to real-world applications of arithmetic and geometric sequences. I instructed the student to complete additional textbook problems before his exam on Monday to better prepare him.

The student received a 92% on his last quiz! They have since moved on to Analytic Trigonometry. The session began with him completing his homework for next class. I kept a close watch and addressed any questions that arose by creating related examples and going through those. After that we did extra problems from the same section that were more complex and involved combining knowledge of multiple identities. I had him create a color coded chart to help him connect the various trig identities using Pythagorean Identities versus Co-functions versus Basic Identities. I referred him back to this chart as we continued working through the more complex problems. We ended the session with a Unit Circle quiz.

We practiced discussing the domains of functions, especially those that are based off of function operations and function compositions. We also discussed different examples where the continuity test would fail during various steps.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Yeojun Caleb in Manhattan, NY
We reviewed more trig identities and did some practice with sum and difference formulas. We did more practice with Pythagorean and quotient identities, and the student has a good grasp on those. We did a few problems that required polynomial factoring as well. We looked briefly into half-angle and double-angle formulas, which are really just applications of the sum formulas, so she shouldn't have too much of an issue if she learns them this week in class.
