This session was the first session back after the long break. The student had been in school for about a week and had taken his first test. He had a test the next day that he felt confident on but wanted to study for further. We first went over the older test working through the problems he had not gotten correct. Specifically, we worked on problems relating to domain and range. We spent an hour on that and then did practice problems for the next test. He used a review sheet he had received in class to practice finding shifting graphs, and then we used problems from the book to practice finding maxima and minima.

The student was given another assignment over manipulating compound fractions. As we worked through the assignment, I could see he having an easier time remembering factoring patterns that helped him simplify expressions more easily; however, he also showed that he did not recall how to factor a quadratic expression normally. I intend to include a more detailed review of factoring techniques in our next session.

With the student we practiced graphs of trigonometric functions covering reflexion, horizontal and vertical shift, vertical stretch and compression, horizontal stretch and compression. She is doing good in her progress toward mastering the concepts. She will practice more through completion of her assigned work. Session went great and we will decide if needed to meet on Monday.

Today we covered continuity and piece-wise functions. We specifically looked at one-sided limits and concepts of continuity and discontinuity. We went over a practice quiz that the student had. She did very well with this topic and got through the entire quiz with no real issues. The only area that tripped her up a little bit was whether a discontinuity was removable or not. We went over when it is removable and when it is not and she very quickly understood and appeared to retain that knowledge as we finished the quiz. The free response questions on her practice quiz were different from the key she had provided me, so I also had her do the questions from the key for extra practice. She did very well on the additional questions. We spent a bit of time at the end of our session going over 1-sided limits with regard to when the limit is infinity or negative infinity and what those graphs would look like and what kind of functions would have those particular limits.

We went over a little bit of chemistry, which involved balancing chemical equations, then moved on to pre-calculus. We covered logarithms, exponential functions, graphing, and inverse functions. She was able to balance the equations fairly well. In math, some of the inverse problems were tricky, but once she figured out the shortcuts it made the problems quite trivial. Now she knows how to do them the long way and the short way. Graphing was also challenging since the formulas were a little more advanced, but she was able to reason through them well. We went over several strategies for solving the math problems, most of them applying to the inverse functions and logarithm/exponential functions, and a few strategies for how to balance chemical equations.
