Session Summaries by Pre-Calculus Tutors

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Noah in Dayton, OH
In our session, we reviewed the list of topics to be covered in the final exam from last week. He worked on some mixing problems that were left undone towards the end of the session. With some help, he was able to get some grasp of the mixing problems. While he still struggled a bit to set it up, I have some faith he will know the general method to do so with some further assistance from the teacher, as he said he would go talk to him on Monday. After working on the mixing problems from last week, he worked on trigonometric problems and using the identities. He did an amazing job in working on problems that were harder than those in the book. During the session, we also worked on matrices, from the calculating the determinant, to getting the inverse, to applying Cramer's rule. He is on the right path with setting up systems of equations as a matrix and solving them from word problems but needs a little extra practice in those problems. To wrap up the day, he worked on logarithms and exponential problems and was able to quickly solve them. Overall, he needed the most help with pushing through problems when it looked like they would take more work, but he was able to persevere and even double check the answers.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Martin in Dayton, OH
This was our last session before the final. We continued to look at the final review packet as well questions that were missed on previous tests and quizzes. Content covered the broad range of the semester. The student has reviewed the material extensively, both with me and on her own. She is a hard worker and highly values doing well in the class. She should do very well on the final.

Today, we covered logarithms and exponential properties/laws, as well as change of base formula. We went over many problems, involving logs, expressing logs as exponentials and vice-versa, solving equations where one has to apply the laws. We concluded by setting up and solving exponential growth/decay word problems.
