Identifying Habitat Organisms - 3rd Grade Science

Deer. Deer are living animals that breathe, eat, grow, and reproduce.

An organism that makes its own food, usually a plant. Producers use sunlight to make food through photosynthesis.

An organism that gets energy by eating other organisms. Consumers cannot make their own food and must eat to survive.

An organism that breaks down dead matter, such as fungi or bacteria. Decomposers recycle nutrients by breaking down dead organisms.

Grass. Grass makes its own food through photosynthesis using sunlight.

Fox. Foxes hunt and eat other animals for energy.

Earthworm. Earthworms break down dead leaves and organic matter in soil.

Desert. Cacti have adaptations for hot, dry desert conditions.

Tundra/Arctic. Polar bears have thick fur and fat for cold Arctic survival.

Pond/wetland. Frogs need water for breeding and keeping their skin moist.

Toucan. Toucans live in warm, wet rainforest canopies eating fruit.

Shark. Sharks are marine predators adapted to saltwater environments.

Mushroom. Mushrooms break down dead plants and animals for nutrients.
