Session Summaries by Physiology Tutors

Physiology Tutoring review by Allison in Woodbury, MN
We worked through some sample problems and the student moved onto some of her homework problems. We started with converting grams to moles, and moved onto solving for the amount of grams/moles required to yield a certain amount of product. She did well and had obviously studied and was prepared with her questions. She was focused on reviewing the material she was struggling with while there is a lull in the class. Towards the end we reviewed cations and anions and she let me know she was a visual learner and liked to make analogies, so we applied some analogies to the earlier topics we discussed. She expressed a desire to keep going over the math part of chemistry so she could apply it later since the class seems to be cumulative. We arranged to do recurring sessions on Mondays, but if she needs an extra session or help earlier she will let me know.

Today we finished practice test #2. On this portion of the test we worked through different types of electron configurations, including full, noble gas, and orbital. We then moved on to periodic trends. Once we finished test two, we moved on to work that the student had in class on naming alkanes. We worked through five problems. Next session we are going to continue to work on naming alkanes and any other subjects that he learns in the next two classes. We are continuing to make good progress through each session and I hope to continue this trend!

Physiology Tutoring review by Kirk in Woodbury, MN
We mostly worked on conservation of energy problems such as changes in kinetic and potential energy from an object being dropped, pushed up a hill, and friction. The student seemed to have a good understanding of the basics of conservation of energy. On inclined plane problems, she struggled initially with breaking the forces down into components, however she seemed to have a good grasp of the content by the end of the session, I would advise perhaps practicing a few more of these problems before her exam on this topic.

Physiology Tutoring review by Stephen in Woodbury, MN
Today the student and I went over a couple problems to help prepare for an exam he has tomorrow in the EE 204 course. We covered problems involving RC/RL circuit step and natural responses. The important formulas we applied are voltage divider, current divider, Ohm's law, and parallel/series resistor combinations. He is comfortable doing mesh/nodal analysis to solve for currents in a circuit. The main challenge seems to be determining what exactly the question is asking. We saw that it is helpful to redraw the circuits to better visualize the circuit to be analyzed. Since the circuit change with time (switches opening/ closing) a few different pictures may be necessary to get a complete picture of the circuit components.

Physiology Tutoring review by Alina in Woodbury, MN
We went over several problems from worksheet provided by the student. She has a good grasp of material overall but needed help somewhat with the cross product and right-hand-rule. She learns quickly and we filled in a few gaps in her knowledge, so that she was better able to understand the problems.

We went over moles/weight conversion and gas laws calculation. The student is struggling on converting between moles, grams, and atom numbers. She has great attitude working on these concepts. Some exam strategies were taught.
