Physiology Tutoring review by Talia in Suffolk County, NY
The student plans to take his thermochemistry exam tomorrow, so we finished up the topics of calorimetry and heat transfer prior to doing a full review of all the material we've covered in this unit. When I was explaining the main equation used to calculate heat transfer given a temperature change, I noticed that he was not completely familiar with his metric conversions such as converted from grams to kilograms or milligrams to grams. I provided a reference for him to use for the remainder of his homework assignments so that this small detail does not hinder his ability to correctly arrive at the answers as he goes through the practice work. We did a few problems from his worksheets and then moved onto a full review of thermochemistry. We went back over the basics of enthalpy, energy diagrams, endothermic versus exothermic reactions, factors affecting reaction rates and equilibrium. He had a great memory of the basics of thermochemistry from our last discussion but needed a bit of review on the specifics of reaction rates, writing equilibrium expressions and phase changes. We went over a phase change diagram and reviewed each part of the graph and what it represents. I told him that most likely he will see a question regarding the graphs in this unit on his test. Overall, he has done a remarkable job learning the material in such a short amount of time and it showed that he worked on the review packet in between our meetings. I assigned him 2-3 problems on 5 different practice worksheets so he does not forget how to do any of the problems that will most likely show up on his test. Once he completes the assignment, he should be completely ready to take his exam on thermochemistry.

Physiology Tutoring review by Boris in Suffolk County, NY
Topics covered were a bit of review, but still necessary for his upcoming exam. 1. Review of types of bonds (dipole-dipole, London forces, van der waals interactions, ionic, covalent, etc.). 2. 1st and 2nd order reactions and how they affect products formed. 3. Understanding how vapor pressure affects boiling and freezing. This session was not so much about mathematical calculation but conceptual understanding. For example, salt water has a higher boiling point. I believe the student is better suited to do conceptual problems since that seems to be a strength of his rather than calculations.
