Physiology Tutoring review by Sergio in Grand Prairie, TX
The student and I reviewed questions for unit 4 in her class focusing on the science behind climate change, how it impacts global atmospheric processes, the frequency and severity of climate events (i.e. hurricanes, droughts), and impacts on humans (i.e. frequent and more severe droughts leading to food shortages). We looked at the background of it and debated around the general principles of climate justice.

Physiology Tutoring review by Shirley in Grand Prairie, TX
The student and I studied acids and bases today. We started our session with an introduction and general definition of acids and bases, and then we talked about the three different definitions as defined by 3 scientists of acids and bases, which were Arrhenius acids/bases, Bronsted-Lowry acids/bases, and Lewis acids/bases. She was very attentive throughout the session despite the fact that sometimes I talked about concepts in a lengthy style. After introducing the different types of acids and bases, she and I began reviewing her homework, which was focused on having a good understanding of Bronsted-Lowry acids/bases. She is bright, and with a few reminders throughout the session, she was quick to catch on the patterns and understanding the concepts fully. I left her a list of common acids and bases she would see, and by the end of our session both of us were confident in her understanding and comprehension of the concepts. After she completed her homework, we began previewing the rest of the chapter on acids and bases, which included equilibrium constants, pH, titrations, and buffers. There was a lot of information, but I appreciated the fact that she listened to me with her full attention. I think that the previews would serve her well.

Physiology Tutoring review by Gregory in Grand Prairie, TX
The student wanted help preparing for her exam covering prokaryotic and eukaryotic gene regulation, the molecular basis of mutation, polyploidy and chromosome rearrangements, and genetic engineering. We spent almost the entire session reviewing the mechanisms of prokaryotic gene regulation, which will probably be a topic tested heavily on the exam based on the practice exams. She had done the readings in her textbook and knew the terms related to gene regulation in prokaryotes, but needed practice understanding in depth the difference between positive/negative and inducible/repressible regulation and how the lac and tryp operons work in bacteria. We solved several problems together that tested her ability to predict the effects of different mutations or environmental conditions on the expression of the lac and tryp structural genes. This is a very complicated concept that can easily lead to confusion but after an hour she was able to solve questions correctly and I think her confidence was boosted.

Physiology Tutoring review by Michael in Grand Prairie, TX
For this session, the student and I reviewed one last time before she takes her exam. We spent the session reviewing the study guide tests. She knew exactly which questions she did not understand, and which questions she did not instantly know the answer to. For all of those questions, we reviewed the content and the processes as necessary. I think she is in great shape for her exam.
