Session Summaries by Physics Tutors

Physics Tutoring review by David in Sunnyvale, CA
We discussed and solved problems in thermodynamics -- convection, conduction, radiation of heat; and more briefly, the molecular theory of gases and the proportionality between temperature and average molecular speeds. We did not discuss grades. She was not struggling with the subject -- she understood everything we studied. However, she needs to do more practice problems before the test in order to get a high grade. I strongly suggest purchasing the student solutions manual for this physics book -- it will help guide her to some helpful problems and help her to do them. No concerns.

Physics Tutoring review by Anthony in Sunnyvale, CA
For this session, we focused on creating position and velocity graphs as a function of time and interpreting them (i.e. calculating displacement). We also discussed how the velocity graphs are calculated from taking the derivative of the position graph. In addition, we discussed how acceleration graphs are found from the derivative of the velocity curves. She has a keen sense of the topic and shows understanding of the subject manner.

Physics Tutoring review by Luke in Sunnyvale, CA
We went over several problems together working through conservation of energy and momentum. We strategized on how to best break up complicated multi-step problems into their constituent parts (e.g. combining a conservation of momentum collision with a conservation of energy conversion from kinetic to potential energy.)

Physics Tutoring review by Joseph in Sunnyvale, CA
Today we went over physics and algebra. In physics we determined time to ground and velocity off of acceleration equations. In algebra, we covered inverse equations and did practice problems. We also reviewed an old test.

Physics Tutoring review by Edward in Sunnyvale, CA
We covered the physics of free fall and worked through a worksheet on it, then covered inverse trigonometric functions and worked through a worksheet on that. The student will complete worksheets on his own then get them checked by me next time. He showed excellent comprehension of the material. All that's needed is practice to boost confidence.
