Session Summaries by Physics Tutors

Physics Tutoring review by Ian in Delaware County, PA
We covered more free response questions from the same topics as the previous session. We discussed the equations for wave motion including the relations between frequency, wavelength, and speed. We also worked a few problems involving fluid flow in pipes of different diameters and the relation of that flow to the pressure in the pipe.

Physics Tutoring review by NJE93MXD3AOneTrust in Delaware County, PA
The student and I worked on fundamental concepts of energy, work, and power. Her class is currently focused upon the law of conservation of energy and she brought along a 6 page review packet that her teacher assigned for homework. The student expressed concern over her teacher's reliance upon online videos to guide/instruct the physics classroom - so we went over the review packet and focused on the concepts where she did not feel very confident in her knowledge base. She had a very firm understanding of the conservation of energy and it seems that concepts of work and power were new to her (but she mastered these concepts fairly quickly once given the equations). Throughout the session, she became more confident about the concept of conservation, and she synthesized her own shortcuts as we came across more complicated problems.

Physics Tutoring review by Trevor in Delaware County, PA
The student is working on force body diagrams in her class. We reviewed these diagrams and worked through a few until she felt like she understood them. She is also needing some help in chemistry. Right now, she is starting atomic chemistry and needed help understanding the electromagnetic spectrum and how to calculate the energy in excited atoms.

Physics Tutoring review by Justin in Delaware County, PA
We first went over some inequality properties from her geometry class. She understands the inequality properties but sometimes has trouble identifying which one to use during steps of proofs. Afterwards we reviewed some older material for her physics class. Most of the time was spent on vectors. She didn't feel that she understood them well from her teacher so I taught the concepts and definitions then we did some example problems. She seems to understand pretty well now how to find vector components and magnitudes and how to add vectors.

Physics Tutoring review by Nate in Delaware County, PA
We reviewed her graded chapter 3 material which included vector resolution and vector addition. To refine the tools used for vector math we also went over Pythagoras's theorem and the use of sin, cos, and tan. We reviewed chapter two projectile motion for her upcoming test as well and practiced splitting the problems into x and y directions.
