Physics Tutoring review by Arianna in Anaheim, CA
The student reported that she feels she did well on her exam on Friday. When she gets that test back we are going to review it. She disclosed that she wanted to review vector properties, relative velocity, and Newton's laws. I came to the session with notes on the former two topics and taught the latter topic out of the textbook. Her class only covered the first two of Newton's laws but I taught her the third one so we could get ahead. Throughout the session I worked with the student on some practice problems.

Physics Tutoring review by Jennifer in Anaheim, CA
The student and I went over the last question of his homework, making sure that he understood the concepts as well as the math. (He had told me that he memorized the steps of how to solve the problem). In my experience, this is not an effective way to study because it only works when you are asked a similar question. Students who do this tend to be thrown by questions they have never seen before because they don't understand the concepts. We started to review the beginning of the next chapter and practiced some of the problems from the textbook. I reminded him that practice practice is the only way to learn how to solve these problems and will help him understand the concepts as it is applied to different situations.
