Phonics Tutoring review by Kate in Centennial, CO
The student completed the rough draft of her paper, and incorporated her teacher's suggestions into it. She was planning to meet with her teacher to see if her paper's content was objective enough. Provided all is well, the only thing she'll have to do is a quick spruce-up of her research paper. If not, her next assignment will be to add more opposing viewpoints and their sources.

Phonics Tutoring review by Lily in Centennial, CO
We reviewed the student's essay from last time, which was in good shape, then we jumped right into a new one. She was excited about the prompt (If you could have lunch with any celebrity, who would it be and what would you talk about?) and started brainstorming some ideas. I think she has an easier time, when she plans what she's going to write a bit. I still have to prompt her occasionally, with questions or a way to start a sentence, but then she's good to go. For homework I gave her a reading comprehension passage with questions.

Phonics Tutoring review by Anna in Centennial, CO
The student had a paper due in English the next day, on "Fahrenheit 451", so we spent all session working on that. We talked about thesis sentences, how there needs to be a thesis for the paper as a whole, and how each body paragraph should also have a mini-thesis, that supports the paper thesis. We practiced finding examples from the book, and he wrote a pretty good first draft. His understanding was that he was just turning in a first draft, for which he expected a completion grade, and would have an opportunity to polish it later. In all, he did a lot of good work.

Phonics Tutoring review by Vienna in Centennial, CO
The student worked on his history paper and prepared for his history test. His history paper on was almost finished by the time I arrived for our session, so we finished that first. Next, we studied for his history test, which was on imperialism. Since his history test is open note, we put his notes in order and I quizzed him on the topics. We looked at the results of his recent science test. We also found two articles for his law class. He didn't have much homework to do, since he has a half-day Thursday and no class Friday, but we worked on his IRP, which is to write a children's book on volcanoes. The book has to be 15 pages long, and he wrote 11 pages today: an introduction, some definition of terms, and brief sections on Mount Vesuvius and Mount Saint Helens.

Phonics Tutoring review by Traci in Centennial, CO
The student did really good work today, although it continues to be very challenging for her. We built our lesson around her spelling list for this week that, thankfully, is all words that follow rules she knows. They all end in -ck. Some have blends at the beginning so we worked on those, as well as the short vowels. We also did some rainbow tracing with words that do not follow rules. She read part of a Poppleton book and one from school about butterflies. I am confident that she made good progress today and that this week's spelling test will work well for her.
