Today, the student and I reviewed inheritance. We discussed the relevant vocabulary and Punnett squares. He did the examples that his teacher gave to his class, and was able to figure out most of them on his own. He fully understands these concepts and how to make a Punnett square. I am confident that he will do well on his quiz tomorrow. We also went over dihybrid squares and incomplete inheritance even though he has not learned it yet in school.

Today, the student and I discussed review questions prior to his upcoming organic chemistry final. Specifically we discussed formation of enols and enolates using basic or acidic reagents, as well as some reactions involving nucleophilic attack by an alpha carbon (to a carbonyl compound). This included halogenation as well as aldol formation. Following this we discussed a good deal about reactions of carbonyls, and how to synthesize particular compounds using carbonyl compounds. These included esterification, reduction of esters using DIBAl H, oxidation of secondary alcohols to ketones, and Grignard additions to aldehydes.
