The student and I reviewed the chemistry concepts for his upcoming test. We covered writing acid base equations and predicting the products, titration of strong acid/ strong base or weak acid/ strong base or strong acid/ weak base, dissociation of a strong acid vs. that of a weak acid, ICE tables, monoprotic/ diprotic/ triprotic acids and dissociation equations, calculating the pH/pOH/[H3O+]/[OH-], Kw = [H3O+][OH-], and naming and writing formulas of compounds.

Also, this discussion led to the understanding of effect of pH on the redox potential.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Helen in Gastonia, NC
The student has another exam this coming Monday, so we spent the entire time going over this material. The exam is on the nervous system, and our topics included ganglia, brain, nerves and their three main types, information processing pathway, central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, cephalization, bilateral symmetry, neurotransmitters - types and purposes (as well as pharmaceutical drugs that mimic or affect them), sodium-potassium pumps, resting potentials, chemical gradients and how they generate membrane potentials, synapses, presynaptic and postsynaptic cell physiology, axons, dendrites, and axon hillocks. She has trouble with the formation of membrane potentials and how they voltage from chemical gradients, so we discussed some videos on YouTube that she will watch to help her study and further understand how neurons fire.
