MCAT Tutoring review by Tahir in Sarasota, FL
Today, we went in detail through glycolysis, the Krebs cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation. We discussed the products of all these processes and the substrates needed. When looking at these, we determined the most important enzymes and steps, which are those that are creating NADH, FADH2, and ATP. In terms of test taking strategy, we determined that reading the question stem first, then scanning over the answers, then applying process of elimination is sometimes the best method for answering questions quickly and accurately without wasting time. We used deductive reasoning to come to some conclusions about the information given such that we could simplify questions without having to do tedious and time consuming calculations.

Today was our final session together as the student is taking the MCAT in two days. Today we covered a slight bit of content but mostly had a lighter conversation about the test and about the application process that follows. She was a pleasure to work with and made incredible strides over the past months. She is very motivated and that will lead to her success come test day.

MCAT Tutoring review by Paul in Sarasota, FL
The student is now moving into the timing phase of her exam practice. We began the session with a basic strategy for pacing, and I also gave her several options for speed improvement drills. Together we practiced the Speed Reading drill with two passages. We then worked through two passages, which she performed well on and also learned valuable lessons in avoiding trap answers. We then worked through several discrete questions on thermodynamics and electromagnetism, two topics she finished recently in her studying. We found some gaps in her knowledge of EM material, however cleared these up easily and left her with ideas for further review. Finally, we finished with a timed quiz on the amino acid structures. We will meet in one week to continue working with speed practice.
