Session Summaries by Math Tutors

Math Tutoring review by Melvin in Nassau County, NY
During this session we did several problems on section 7.5 which dealt with strategies of doing integrations. The student has a good grasp on the topics and knows for the most part how to initiate the problems. We focused mostly on partial fractions. This session went really well. I'm sure the student will do well on her exam.

The student and I met to go over some of the problems she got wrong on her last test. The problems involved graphing functions with three variables. The graphs are not easy as they require the ability to visualize images in three dimensions. We worked through several problems and cleared up a lot of confusion in this area. She has a test next week and I meet with her again on Monday to help her to prepare.

We were doing a test review today. We focused on equations of lines and the different forms of each line. We also talked about polynomials, their degree and form. After some test review, we worked on Physics. The student is going well, from what I can see. All she needs is a little more practice and again, to learn to slow down on reading and interpreting the problems.

Math Tutoring review by Rudy in Nassau County, NY
For today's session, we started with algebra 2 in which the student and I focused on inequalities - both solving and graphing. She had a little trouble at first tackling the problems, but did great towards the end. We also did a little chemistry in which she started working with moles, molar mass and STP. She did well but will need some more practice as the problems get a little more complex.

Math Tutoring review by Sean in Nassau County, NY
We began with covering some topics that the student wasn't 100% comfortable with, such as the distributive property and certain kinds of decimal division. After practicing through several examples, he quickly grasped the concepts and was able to solve new examples on his own. We then went through a handful of example CML problems involving rates, number ranges, and logic puzzles. He had a good handle here and was able to clearly explain his thought process along the way. We recognized that these word-based problems aren't terribly difficult in the math, only convoluted sometimes in the wording; boiling the problem down to what it is specifically asking for is the key, along with finding the restricting conditions + educated trial/ error. We finished things up with reviewing two-step algebra problems and basic geometry (circle properties). He had a good handle of converting basic word operations into algebra. We will practice more next session with actual word problems -> algebra. I will be sending him some assorted homework problems to work with on his own.
