How can Math tutoring help you?

Math is an integral pillar of education. Without strong math skills, your student could struggle. Because math skills feed into so many other subjects, it is imperative that you ensure your student is learning and retaining the knowledge they gain from math courses. The subject is so important that Texas includes it on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, which students take each year. Let Varsity Tutors find you an expert math tutor in McKinney, TX, who is trained to teach students at any proficiency level. Tutoring services allow your student to meet with tutors that are experts in their field and have experience with tutoring math. Your student could be able to meet with their tutor face-to-face online or in person. The online sessions are designed to keep your child engaged throughout, as are the in-person sessions. If your student studies better from your kitchen table than in the local library, the tutor will be there whenever it is convenient for you and your child.

Math builds upon itself over the years. Addition and subtraction feed into multiplication and division. You could want to strive to ensure your child's basics are concrete before moving onto more complicated subjects like data analysis and converting measurements. Your child's personal tutor will create custom coursework for your student that pinpoints areas that they need work on. Contact our educational directors for help locating a math tutor in McKinney, TX. If you'd like your student to succeed in math, customized and personal help could be the key.

Session Summaries by Math Tutors

Math Tutoring review by Nathan in McKinney, TX
I reviewed with the student derivatives and applications of derivatives. We discussed what the first and second derivatives of a function describe about the function, such as concavity and inflection, and successfully learned to graph the basic shape of a function when given f(x), f'(x), and f''(x) at particular values or intervals of x. We also completed some practice problems related to High School Physics. We covered the fundamental equations for motion in one and two dimensions, basic vector addition and subtraction, and the concept of constant acceleration due to gravity. The student stated that she had a better understanding of the application of the equations of motion because I was able to show the derivation of the equations she was given in class and completed several practice problems covering the suite of variables involved in one and two dimensional motion.

Math Tutoring review by Achante in McKinney, TX
We focused heavily on more basic information, since she seems to understand the processes. We practiced a lot with adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers, as working problems with substitution, elimination, and graphing. We also worked on solving matrices. At the end of the session we focused on the PSAT. I did an initial assessment, which tested her performance in various subjects of the PSAT. She is an well-developed reader, which is seen in her vocabulary practice. She also has a basic understanding of Geometry, which will help her with the math section.

Math Tutoring review by Sarah in McKinney, TX
The student and I were able to follow up and review some of the topics we covered last Wednesday. We reviewed synthetic division and then applied the remainder theorem; we reviewed long division and used it top help determine the remaining factors of a polynomial given one of the zeroes; we reviewed determining real factors from a graph; and applied multiplicity this week, as well as how to determine imaginary factors and create a graph given its roots and multiplicities. Overall, the student is showing a better understanding of finding roots using the different methods. We will continue to review these techniques and apply new ones to prepare for his upcoming test.

Math Tutoring review by Boutros in McKinney, TX
Things are going extremely well with the student. He quickly grasps concepts. Today we reviewed chain rule problems. We went over some homework assignment questions he had from last week, and our discussions and review led to the introduction of U-Substitution, which is a concept from later in the class. This, along with a more in-depth inspection of the meaning of "dy/dx" really seem to switch the light on in his head.

Math Tutoring review by Samuel in McKinney, TX
The student worked on solving more systems of equations involving word problems. He has a little trouble assigning variables to different aspects of the problem, and determining how they relate to each other. Once he overcomes that obstacle he is usually able to complete the problem. We also reviewed solving systems of equations using substitution, elimination, and graphing methods. He has a test on these subjects on Wednesday 16 October.
