Session Summaries by Math Tutors

Math Tutoring review by Joseph in Fremont, CA
Today, the student and I finished reviewing for his test. For the most part, the work went smoothly and he seemed to understand the concepts; however, we got stuck briefly on a problem regarding parametric equations, in part because he had forgotten that the concept was even going to be on the test. Once we realized what needed to be done, though, the problem became simple.

Math Tutoring review by Carolyn in Fremont, CA
In our session, the student worked through her exam review questions, which were primarily focused on limits and how to examine graphs and functions for continuity. She had a few snags on the concept of continuity and how to figure out left and right hand limits graphically, but we worked through them pretty quickly. I think she felt much more confident about her test by the end of the session.

Math Tutoring review by Cynthia in Fremont, CA
The student had a worksheet involving the translation of phrases into algebraic expressions. For example, "3 less than 2 times a number" would be written as 2X -3. The student is getting fairly skilled at doing these. The assignment was not lengthy or challenging, and he was quite chatty. He's fairly certain that he has brought his grade up.

Math Tutoring review by Thomas in Fremont, CA
Today was my first session with the student. He is smart young man, and after some guidance and a few examples he managed to pick up the main idea necessary for success in that section. We reviewed some "challenge" questions and he was able to solve the problems with little assistance. Word problems were also covered and progress was positive as well.

Math Tutoring review by Trisha in Fremont, CA
In this session, the student and I worked primarily on his algebra homework and preparing for his upcoming test on Friday. The homework was over quadratic equations, the quadratic formula, and using the discriminant to discover roots. He seemed to absorb this material very quickly. We also talked about organization and what was happening in each class for 10-15 minutes at the beginning of the session.

Math Tutoring review by Angela in Fremont, CA
We started with a warm-up of 5 questions to review 3rd grade Math. There was one word problem so I asked the student to identify the keywords in the problem that are clues for solving it. We reviewed order of operations and did a long division worksheet. We did word problems that required both multiplication and division, and she did very well. I showed her how drawing a picture can help set up solving word problems. I had her recite her 4's and 5's for her multiplication tables.
