Session Summaries by LSAT Tutors

LSAT Tutoring review by Andrea in Somerville, MA
I began our first session by familiarizing myself with the student's priorities and establishing the points of highest priority to focus on first. We then went through Chapter 1 of the curriculum, The Basics, covering general advice for standardized testing. Next we covered the Intro To Critical Reading chapter and reviewed 3 strategies for answering critical reading questions. While the student experimented with each strategy to find the one that worked best for him, I wrote out a vocabulary list for him to work on this week. For the remainder of our time I had him complete some critical reading sections which we reviewed, discussing and correcting incorrect answers. His homework for our next session includes taking the 1st Practice ACT and studying the vocabulary flash cards.

We touched on how to solve for Ka and kb. We also did some titration problems. We also covered chemical bonding. Student demonstrated good understanding of the topic. Student is doing an excellent job!

LSAT Tutoring review by Jennifer in Somerville, MA
Today we started working on math with a focus of number sense. The student and I played a game. He is working on automaticity for number facts 1-20 in addition and subtraction.  We are focusing on the associative property of addition and subtraction. 9+1= 10 so 1+9=10 and 10-1=9 and 10-9=1, fact families.

LSAT Tutoring review by Brianna in Somerville, MA
I met with the student to go over the essay I assigned before the new year. I was very pleasantly surprised with the result! I had asked her for an argumentative five-paragraph essay, and she certainly delivered. It was in perfect form, with some added "oomph" at the end that was very well thought-out. It led us to talking about sentence structure and grammar, and the difference in homonyms. She can clearly identify which to/too/two is which, but a few homonyms were misused in the paper. We also went through two book passages I brought along to test the efficacy of highlighters. She is certainly more motivated to read and pay attention to passages that interest her, but the highlighters did make a huge difference in her retention of the reading material, and she did slow down and thoroughly read both passages - even asking questions at the end! We ended with a quick review of math, as her teacher will be building on chapter six material.

LSAT Tutoring review by Noah in Somerville, MA
The student and I were able to get through the last chapter in the book, Chapter 15, on schedule. She will now do extra practice as needed using online materials, and will complete the last 4 chapter quizzes to assess her comprehension. She has done very well on the other 11 chapter quizzes. Next week, she and I will meet and review the quizzes to see if there are any topics that are in need of final review.

The student powered through a content heavy flaws session and, once again, did a great job. She made inferences correctly the whole way; I was very impressed. Keep up the good work, we have lots more to do on Sunday!
