Session Summaries by LSAT Tutors

LSAT Tutoring review by Gerard in Chesapeake, VA
The student and I started working through some problem solving questions during this session. We first went over some topics related to triangles including: similar triangles, the triangle inequality theorem, and the different types of triangles. We also worked on rate problems, in particular, how to find an average speed and convert between different units.

LSAT Tutoring review by Erica in Chesapeake, VA
We covered percentages, special triangles, and multiple geometric figures. The student struggled at first with 45, 45, 90 and 30, 60, 90 triangles. She found the material challenging but seemed to find it helpful. I included strategies for breaking down geometric figures to find side lengths and perimeters as well as strategies for solving percentage problems. I left her with extra geometry practice.

LSAT Tutoring review by Richard in Chesapeake, VA
On Thursday, we spent one more session doing general math review. The student re-took a math fundamentals quiz, and she reviewed her math basics, such as prime numbers and triangle relationships. We also went over how to quickly sum numbers using canceling (pairs that sum to 10, 100, etc.) and solve for the units digit. We practiced more "plugging in" and when to simplify to pick the right answer. She is nearly ready for her GRE exam; now we want to focus on the medium-hard questions for the remaining 2 sessions.

LSAT Tutoring review by William in Chesapeake, VA
We worked for the full 2 hours on math. A fair part of this was diagnostic, to find where the student did not know the techniques involved. These will be worked on next session in a more pedagogical style.

LSAT Tutoring review by Kelly in Chesapeake, VA
During our session this afternoon, the student and I went over 2 practice tests she did on her own. She did very well but had some trouble with questions about rates, coordinate geometry, geometry, and probability. After going over the sample questions, we went over questions about counting and probability. We discussed the formulas used to tackle counting questions, and then discussed strategies to answer the different types of counting and probability questions. I will send her more practice sets as well as basic questions on exponents for a little bit of extra practice.

LSAT Tutoring review by Jason in Chesapeake, VA
We went over practice problems that the student did in his study book, and we did some more practice with rate word problems. We talked about exponent rules and when to apply them (when the question has huge exponents that can't be evaluated by a calculator, it's probably asking you to regroup the terms using the exponent rules). We reviewed the geometry rules that we went over last week. We want to work on translating word problems into algebra equations some more.
