Session Summaries by Latin Tutors

Latin Tutoring review by Andrea in Santa Ana, CA
The student and I worked primarily on constructing the outline and supporting content for her first in-class presentation this week. We opened the session by going over various passages from "Don Juan" that seemed like they might support some of the themes and interpretations we developed during our last meeting, and spent the rest of the session using selected quotes to develop rationale and support to use in the presentation. Our next meeting is scheduled for 9:30a on Wednesday, 01/27.

The student and I worked on studying for her spanish final this week. We reviewed tu/ud informal/formal commands. We especially focused on irregular commands. We also reviewed irregular preterite conjugations.  The student needs a lot of review in both of these areas. She struggled to remember these concepts and the "stems" especially in the preterite. I went over them again with her, but she still needs to review before her final. I have emailed her websites that have the information and suggested a few websites with activities for practice to help her improve in these two areas.

Latin Tutoring review by Natalie in Santa Ana, CA
The student did not have homework today. Today in class she discussed Roman numerals which was very easy for her. During our session, we focused on the next lesson in her book, lesson 105. This lesson included a review of past lessons and unit rate. The student did better with a fraction of a number when drawing it out. We ended our session with the multiplication and subtraction card game. The student informed me she almost won a multiplication game in class today. With subtraction, she is not using her fingers at all. This is 100% improvement from last time.

Latin Tutoring review by Sarah in Santa Ana, CA
This was our first session. We went over concepts that she was currently learning in class. We were specifically going over imaginary numbers. After we went over the concepts, we worked out problems in her textbook so that it will help her gain a better understanding of imaginary numbers and how to work out problems involving them. She definitely seemed more comfortable with the subject at the end of our session.

Latin Tutoring review by Winta in Santa Ana, CA
We worked on a translation together. The student had completed this translation prior to my arrival, which was great and definitely allowed us to work on it much faster. He is not yet comfortable with the 3rd-5th declension endings, so I encouraged him to study those on his own.
