Latin Tutoring review by Maria in Laguna Niguel, CA
Today we reviewed for the final. We went through all of the study guides for the semester (she did a great job keeping them all), and I quizzed her and gave her sample problems. She is reviewing vocab and forms tonight. She's doing great. Tomorrow is the big day!

Latin Tutoring review by Sean in Laguna Niguel, CA
At today's session the student and I spent the first 45 or so minutes working on some homework he was assigned by his teacher. This was based on chapter 43 - review of subordinate clauses and passive subjunctives. We had worked on this somewhat last week, and he did very well with this. The second half of the session was spent on concept review: adjective/adverb formation and present participles. These are both things he learned previously, and, although he was familiar with the concepts, he was unclear as to the reasoning and formation behind them. We reviewed these two areas, and he indicated a better understanding in both adjectives/adverbs and participles. This will be beneficial in the long term especially since final exams are quickly approaching.

Latin Tutoring review by Amelia in Laguna Niguel, CA
Today, we reviewed material for a test that the student will have tomorrow. We focused primarily on identifying and translating verb forms; I gave her various verb forms, and asked her to identify the person, number, and tense. Throughout our work, I emphasized some patterns and tips to make the process easier. Over the course of the lesson, she seemed to grow more comfortable with this activity. In addition to practicing verb identification, we also reviewed how to identify a verb's conjugation.

Latin Tutoring review by Stephen in Laguna Niguel, CA
In this session we reviewed basic material from Latin 1. We covered Conjugations, Declensions, Prepositions, and the Passive Voice. The majority of the session was spent translating sentences to English and focusing on improving translations skills. Next week is when the student begins to cover the subjunctive so we agreed to begin covering that for next time.

Latin Tutoring review by Sebastian in Laguna Niguel, CA
The student and I reviewed participles in Latin and a particular form of participle called the gerundive. We practiced exercises on these, the passive periphrastic, and the ablative absolute. The idea was simply to build up his grammatical reflexes. We will continue practicing these on Monday.

Latin Tutoring review by Elise in Laguna Niguel, CA
We discussed the way the student's Latin class is set up (what they do in class, what they do for homework, and what they do on tests). From there, we translated sentences from his textbook that use either the "passive periphrastic" or "ablative absolute." Because these sentences were taken directly from ancient Roman authors, they were challenging, but he did a good job working through them with a little bit of guidance. He has done a good job memorizing the various tenses and declension endings, and we will be working on his ability to put those pieces together when he translates. The main strategy I suggested was looking for the verb in a sentence and using that as a starting point for translating the rest of the sentence. Our big goal is to get him better prepared for his final exam in May, and to do so, we plan to meet twice per week to practice translating his assignments.
