Latin Tutoring review by Nicole in Glendale, AZ
I taught both students second declension nouns. Today was a day filled with a lot of notes and I left them with a lot to memorize. I know that they understand declensions, because we have been working on them for a while now, but now I need them to memorize the new forms and vocabulary I gave them. They will work on that before our next session.

Latin Tutoring review by Erin in Glendale, AZ
The student and I read a chapter in her textbook and then answered questions from a previous lesson. She has a strong foundation in the grammar and seems relatively comfortable with case and verb endings. Sometimes she struggles to put this knowledge into English (e.g. she knows a noun is in the accusative case but struggles to turn that into the direct object in an English translation). But she's working on it and always corrects herself accurately when I point out these errors. We will continue to work on this. She's very smart and a hard worker. I've enjoyed our sessions so far.

Latin Tutoring review by Dana in Glendale, AZ
We practiced some more synopses, focusing on the 3rd and 4th conjugations, present, imperfect, and future tenses, where the student needs more work. We then looked at his homework for tomorrow which emphasized adjectives in their comparative degree. He appears to understand this point of Latin grammar well.

Latin Tutoring review by Winta in Glendale, AZ
The student has a midterm on Wednesday on topics not covered the year prior, so we were reviewing things he indicated feeling less comfortable with: uses of the ablative, the subjunctive, tenses, and voices of the infinitive. We talked about how much time he has to study. He said he could devote 30 minutes tonight (he has other homework), 45 minutes tomorrow in study hall, and maybe 2 hours at home. I encouraged him to get his parents involved to help him stay accountable to studying as much as he plans to.

The student did a superb job tonight! We continued our work with second-declension nouns, and it's clear he is mastering the material. Practice is indeed making perfect for him. Terrific effort tonight.

Latin Tutoring review by Abigail in Glendale, AZ
The student and I continued our thorough review of the fundamentals of Latin grammar and syntax. We started by reviewing the topics we had covered last week: the parts of speech, the features of a noun, the meanings of cases, and the forms of the first 3 declensions. To help him commit the forms to memory, I asked him to write down a full paradigm of 5 nouns. Next, we looked at noun-adjective agreement. After talking for a while about the rules of noun-adjective agreement, I gave him some practice problems. I asked him to provide the correct form of the adjective "bonus" for 10 nouns of varying gender, declension, number, and case. He did pretty well on this exercise, but I plan to continue emphasizing and reviewing it. We finished up our session with a few minutes of simple sight reading. Next week, we will begin our review of the basics of verbs.
