Latin Tutoring review by Kerry in Fishers, IN
The student did his usual great work today. He did a great job demonstrating a fine command of the specific grammar of the third conjugation and grammar in general (nouns, adjectives, subject-verb agreements, etc.). We began our translation of the Latin story "A Gift Bearing Greeks," which concentrated on the third conjugation.

The student translated, and we reviewed her homework, which she did perfectly. She is almost where we would like for her to be. She always translated well, but she is much less self conscious, much more comfortable with sight reading, and much quicker. She is definitely ready to go back to class! I love working with her.

The students and I finished up the review and we learned a new prayer in Latin. We went over the prayer line by line, and talked about what each word meant. They learned proper nouns today and how to identify them. Then they came up with their own list of proper nouns. I'm going to try to incorporate as much review in each session as possible, because we are at the point where there has been a lot of information, and a short five-minute review will be good for them. They're both doing great and progressing very well.

Latin Tutoring review by Amy in Fishers, IN
This session we continued to review the recent Latin exam the student had taken. He needed help to identify parts of speech. I asked him to review and memorize the case endings in all 5 declensions and the verb endings for passive and active voices and indicative, subjunctive, and imperative moods before next week's session. I recommended that he memorize by reviewing the relevant section of Moreland and Fleischer, and then by writing out the declension (or conjugation, etc.) with a new word, until the endings are memorized. As we reviewed his answers, we continued to discussion useful test-taking strategies (process of elimination, and finding the answer to the reading comprehension section in the text) and translation strategies (moving from verb to subject to object).

Latin Tutoring review by Lorna in Fishers, IN
This session went great. The student is quick to pick up on new ideas, and seems to do best with specific examples. Next time we will practice writing sentences and pulling apart my silly example sentences so that we can look for independent clauses and different types of dependent clauses. We will also try an exercise from a grammatical book to help him get a better grasp on commas. I am considering a basic part of speech review because I think it will boost his confidence and make him more comfortable making educated guesses when he is not sure of an answer.

Latin Tutoring review by David in Fishers, IN
This was our last session together, and I'm sad to see the student go. We talked about some general translation strategies for the upcoming test, and then we got to translating some Caesar (a portion of which had been assigned for his previous course).
