Languages Tutoring review by Emily in Des Plaines, IL
We covered ser and estar... The student wrote 10 sentences using these two verbs and incorporated new vocabulary words she learned from the workbook we are working out of. We also read in Spanish, improved her reading comprehension and pronunciation. Additionally we went on to review the vocabulary of the 'campo' and she learned new vocabulary words used for animals, the farm environment, nature etc. While doing this we used ser and estar and she then learned how to incorporate the use of the word 'hay' into context. We did a little bit of artwork to reinforce her comprehension of these words and new grammar structures in addition to making sure that she always spoke to me in complete sentences in the Spanish language. She is doing very well. We also reviewed the alphabet, numbers in Spanish 1-50, as well as the days of the week.

Today we focused on writing and sentence structure. I gave her a writing prompt and we discussed how to best go about a writing assignment like this. She came up with the sentences on her own and we talked about best methods to identify and correct her mistakes. I then quizzed her on vocab words and verb conjugations that she was having difficulty with.

Today we practiced conjugating verbs and putting sentences together. I asked the student questions pertaining to her likes and dislikes, including the weather. Then we moved on to reading Spanish material. Today she read through the prologue and chapter 1 of the assigned novel in Spanish. I asked her to read through it once before going through the translation together. Her pronunciation was very good, especially with slightly more complicated material in comparison to before.

Languages Tutoring review by Jozef Engel in Des Plaines, IL
The student had started a composition before I arrived, and I helped her finish it. I reminded her of how to form the subjunctive (which she did pretty well on) and when to use it, and also helped prompt her for vocabulary. We then worked a bit on more open-ended questions (e.g. how to answer what she did yesterday) and took a quick look at the take-home quiz. I reminded her about double-object pronouns (which we worked on last time).

Languages Tutoring review by Kaitlyn in Des Plaines, IL
Today was another pretty good session with both students. They were fairly positive and focused. We started off by reading the story, and their progress continues with the words that they can read and understand. The grammar worksheet this week was on writing and recognizing verbs, and they needed a little bit of direction and translation help, but caught on very quickly. When we wrote the word of the week story, it was the fastest we have ever done it, and they managed to squeeze two words into each sentence, and I was so proud.
