How can a tutor help your child master the ISEE?

Independent schools in the Skokie area are looking for students like yours to join their learning communities. Unfortunately, they are not able to interview every student whose application comes across their desk, and their admissions counselors have to rely on screening methods to weed through the piles of applicants. The primary screening tool they use is the Independent School Entrance Exam, or ISEE. The ISEE tests your child in verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, and math achievement, as well as requiring them to write an essay. One-on-one ISEE tutoring in Skokie, IL, can afford you and your child the ability to fine-tune their academic and test-taking skills by asking questions and getting immediate feedback, so that when test day comes, your child is prepared to do their very best.

The educational directors at Varsity Tutors can connect you with professional ISEE tutors in Skokie today, and set your child on a course for success towards the independent school of their choice. Tutors can assess your student's current abilities, identify their strengths to capitalize on, and root out their weaknesses and areas in need of improvement, catering a specialized learning plan to your student's needs. They will guide you and your child through the material needed to excel on the ISEE, at a pace that works for your student, as well as at the pace required to be prepared on test day. Whether you have weeks or years to prepare, your ISEE tutor in Skokie will make the most of the time they have.

Session Summaries by ISEE Tutors

ISEE Tutoring review by Claudia in Skokie, IL
Today we worked on quantitative reasoning strategy and practice problems, and we focused mostly on concepts this time but will probably focus more on pacing. We went through all the practice problems provided by the guide, and then dove into some of the problems provided by the tutoring company for extra practice on some of the more difficult concepts, particularly volumes of three dimensional objects like cones and pyramids. Next time we will jump in to reading comprehension.

ISEE Tutoring review by Paul in Skokie, IL
We began the session by reviewing the student's homework assignment of using the words from the problems on the sentence completion drills which he got incorrect during last session in a sentence. We then focused on Quantitative Reasoning problems, specifically fractions, decimals, and percents. For homework, I assigned him some reading on analogies as well as the first 2 sections of the first placement exam Practice Exam, and to time himself on the exam sections, using strategies discussed during our session, mainly to read all of the questions first, then mark the easy, medium, and hard ones before working them out. That way if he gets stuck on a difficult problem and spends additional time, he has already answered the easy ones and doesn't miss an easy questions due to time constraints. I will email to his father a scanned copy of the steps I took to answer one of the QR questions the student struggled with during this session.

ISEE Tutoring review by Taylor in Skokie, IL
We reviewed missed questions from his math diagnostic, focusing specifically on prime numbers, simplifying expressions, multiplying and adding exponents, and calculating volume of 3-D figures. The student also took a portion of a reading comprehension diagnostic and we began to review some strategies with those questions. He seems to struggle with reading comprehension the most. I am emailing the family additional resources.

Today we continued to cover math. We reviewed polynomials, absolute values, and the difference between ratios, fractions, and percents. She did very well with geometry and the Pythagorean theorem and I introduced the concepts of sectors and solving algebraic equations with consecutive variables.
