How can a tutor help your child master the ISEE?

The ISEE is the Independent School Entrance Exam. It is taken by students who are interested in applying for a private school. The administered exam comes in three levels for students of different grades; these are lower, middle, and upper levels. Though each exam covers similar content, the questions your child may face may become progressively more challenging to try to meet the school requirements. There are five sections on the ISEE: the quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, math achievement, and the essay section. If your child is planning to take the ISEE, you may provide the ultimate support available with the guidance of Varsity Tutors in Nashville, Tennessee. Our educational directors may connect you with an independent tutor who is skilled in helping students prep for the ISEE.

When you contact the educational directors, they begin working with you to develop your student's profile based on your child's specific testing goals, dates, school of choice, proficiency levels, and other factors. You may be connected with an excellent tutor in Nashville who may work with your child independently to improve their potential on the ISEE.

Session Summaries by ISEE Tutors

ISEE Tutoring review by Miriam in Nashville, TN
The student completed several ISEE online practice questions and assessments. Some of the math covered decimal equivalents, probability, mean/median, and reading data from tables. He scored 10/12 on one of these practice pages. For reading comprehension, he scored a 9/15. A strategy he needs to use more is reading/skimming the questions first so he knows what to look for when he is reading the passage. His homework this week is new vocabulary words and the essay.

Today we went over the student's results to her practice test. She did well on just about everything. I made sure she understood where she went wrong and then moved forward. Her essay was good. She will work on probability, multi-step problems, and math for complete comprehension of her work.

ISEE Tutoring review by Zachary in Nashville, TN
The student completed a verbal section since our last meeting (25/34). On the synonym portion, there were some words he was unfamiliar with, but he did well applying the strategies we've been going over. There were a couple of root words that he'd forgotten, so we reviewed those and introduced some new ones for him to study. On sentence completion, he had a little trouble following context clues to lead him to a specific answer, so we did some practice using context clues to define new words. He did an excellent job with this activity and knows to apply it to the next verbal section he completes. I also asked him to work on eliminating answers that aren't a good fit before guessing. We finished by reviewing some strategies for the reading section. He will complete a reading section for next week.

ISEE Tutoring review by Maxwell in Nashville, TN
On Friday, the student and I had an opportunity to go over a subject that we don't often touch on in our ISEE work - science. In general, her family feels comfortable working with me for subjects that extend beyond the ISEE - which I feel is a net positive. She needed help with balancing chemical equations, and I was excited to get to work with her on a subject that is related to our work and broke the monotony of going through the same problem types over and over again. She was ready for her science quiz by the end of our session.

ISEE Tutoring review by Brandon in Nashville, TN
The student edited his writing and then we moved on to math. We spent some time going over percents and dividing by tens, but most of the math portion was a mixed review of concepts he had seen before. Then, I let him do a fiction prompt where he wrote about a mysterious package he received.
