ISEE Tutoring review by Ashley in Mesa, AZ
In my session with the student, we began by reviewing her homework, which was to retake a diagnostic test she took at our first session. She improved dramatically on this exam. We then focused on the quantitative section, specifically Quantitative Comparisons. The session went well.

ISEE Tutoring review by Anna in Mesa, AZ
The student and I worked on her Verbal Reasoning skills. She is bright in that she picks up on direction and skills to help her very quickly. For example, when we were working on synonyms, she picked up on a shortcut that I had taught her last week and applied it this week when doing some of the problems. The trick was to see if there was another word, i.e. the root word, that she could find in the word she was given and if so, did she know the definition to that. When that was the case, she did well. It is evident that she will need to work on her vocabulary outside of our sessions to make the verbal reasoning easier for her. I asked her to do 25 Vocab words this week so that we can work on trying to decipher and apply them in sentences to also help increase her writing ability.

We covered the Middle Level SSAT test, and he completed the test in 90 minutes. Much of the test he solved in his head. I talked with his mom about showing his work. In future sessions, we will focus on showing work, as well as testing.

ISEE Tutoring review by David in Mesa, AZ
We switched over to the quantitative reasoning section. We started with a review of basic algebra and math vocab. I had her practice each section and she has a very good understanding of the basics. I am having her do another review in another book for the next 2 weeks. She is an enthusiastic learner and applies the techniques I teach her.

ISEE Tutoring review by Kian in Mesa, AZ
The student is an excellent and high-performing student whom I expect to improve greatly with instruction. His only difficulties are in number theory and some geometry concepts, and he should become more than proficient at these fairly easily.

ISEE Tutoring review by Lynne in Mesa, AZ
We covered the remaining appropriate topics in arithmetic - operations with fractions and decimals, place value, equivalent fractions to compare ratios, mean, median, and mode. I did not cover percents, scientific notation, nor exponents, as these topics are a little difficult for 4th grade. I then gave the student some problems, based on these concepts, to do. He did well. We then discussed a topic for an essay which he will work on during the work. The chosen topic was whether or not tests should be given in school, and to my surprise, he supported tests in school. He then brainstormed some reasons to support his position. I then introduced reading comprehension strategies and what to look for as you read the paragraphs and passages. We just started this. He did a great job today.
