How can a tutor help your child master the HSPT?

When your goal is to get your child in a private school, they have one shot at taking the High School Placement Test (HSPT), the admission test for private schools. Typically, the administration in private schools takes the lowest score among all attempts at taking the exam, so there is no point for your child to take the HSPT multiple times, unlike other tests.

With only one opportunity to impress the private school's admission committee, it's imperative that your child gets an impressive score on the exam the first time around. One way your child could better understand their HSPT is by learning from an HSPT tutor.

HSPT Tutoring review by Michael in Sacramento, CA
This week, we started by reviewing the diagnostic test I assigned him last time. The student did very well on this and even got a few sections absolutely perfect. Today we spent time reviewing some of the English topics. This included synonyms, analogies, and general vocab. We talked about using word tone and roots to decipher the definition of unknown words. For analogies, we talked about classifications of relationships and how to come up with a bridge to solve the word meanings. The student did very well and is clearly very driven!

We started off my over-viewing the schools he plans to apply to and practicing looking up specifics about admissions criteria for each school. We reviewed the criteria and the timing of the test. We talked a lot about making educated guesses. Today was a lot of talk about test taking strategy and some practice. He did much better on the practice test we worked on today then he had done previously.
