Private In-Home and Online HSPT Tutoring in Nassau County, NY

Receive personally tailored HSPT lessons from exceptional tutors in a one-on-one setting. We help you connect with in-home and online tutoring that offers flexible scheduling and your choice of locations.

How can a tutor help your child master the HSPT?

Private and parochial high school applications must take into account High School Placement Test (HSPT) scores. The HSPT could make or break your child's odds of being accepted into the school of preference and could have implications down the road in college. A personal HSPT tutor in Nassau County, NY, will be in a position to cater sessions to your child's preferences, in a way that they will not get in a traditional classroom setting. A tutor is going to offer an alternative to the "one-size fits all" approach. Every topic your student is challenged by can be covered, so they are ready to answer the nearly 300 questions on the 2.5-hour HSPT.

The exam is administered by every individual private school. As there's no nationally standardized format or scoring, you'll have to find a tutor who is familiar with the details of the particular school and version. We are able to accomplish that, and then a skilled HSPT tutor in Nassau County can assess your student's abilities, to help them perform their best on the HSPT. Their tutor will assess your child's strengths and weaknesses. Each study session will then be customized to their needs, targeting the greatest topics of confusion. The tutor will provide practice tests that are presented in the same format, and this can be used to gauge your child's proficiency and growth in any subject on the test.

Session Summaries by HSPT Tutors

HSPT Tutoring review by Farah in Nassau County, NY
The student and I finished the synonym and sentence completion sections today. We went over her homework and discussed extra strategies such as making your own context, assigning positives/ negatives, and checking for parts of speech. Then we moved on to the sentence completions. I told her that the best strategy for these is to cover up the answer choices, fill your own word into the blank, and then cross-check to find the best answer choice. We also extended this process to assigning positive/negative like we did before in the synonyms section. Next week I hope to get through most of the reading section. Then all we will have left is the essay and extra practice.

HSPT Tutoring review by Walter in Nassau County, NY
We went over vocabulary--the one area where the student needs to improve--and practiced both answering questions and reviewing new words. We went over some more essays with special attention to what made the essays graded "6" good. A productive session.

HSPT Tutoring review by Jozef Engel in Nassau County, NY
The previous week, I sent the student a series of practice questions so she could become familiar with the ISEE. She had completed three of the five sections, so I looked over her answers. She did pretty well overall, and we discussed the handful of questions she missed. I explained some strategies to eliminate obviously wrong answers, and again emphasized not losing time on pondering questions. We then worked through two English activities I brought. I then gave her three math and quantitative activities to work on.

HSPT Tutoring review by Shannon in Nassau County, NY
We worked through a variety of sections, hitting at least one each of writing, reading and math. The student can do well when she doesn't jump to conclusions. Since she reads quickly and has time, she should consult the passage when a particular line is referred to. She didn't miss any comprehension questions on the next reading section. All in all, she's a very strong student and did very well!

HSPT Tutoring review by Emily in Nassau County, NY
I worked with the student on math problems in the ISEE. We went through a practice section he had taken in his test prep book and we reviewed the questions. We covered topics like how to read the diagrams and drawings on the test (not drawn to scale, how lines and angles are labeled), geometric formulas (perimeter for a triangle), and practiced identifying the formula drawn on for a word problem, and how to apply problem data to that formula. I gave him a regimen of study for the coming week. Writing definitions and creating sentences for 15 words a day, and doing one math practice section a day and identifying problems that he wants to go over together. He will also take an online practice test on Wednesday in test timing.

The student and I had a great session. He was focused. we were able to cover a range of topics from complex conjugates, sine and cosine rules, division by a fraction, and the rules of radicals. We also discussed the best way to indicate if a sentence needed to be relocated or removed. The student performed well. It was a great session.
