I've really enjoyed my experience with VT. I was feeling very discouraged about taking the GRE again and I wanted to try and boost my score. I think learning from a person is so much better than a book! I feel so much more prepared and I've been telling people about it as well!

We found VT to be incredibly well qualified and were able to get 2 different people for the type of studying my son needed for his GRE studies. They were able to tailor the teaching structure one on one to his needs. He had excellent results, and has since been accepted to grad school.

Worked on reading and writing homework. The student had some problems with writing his paper. Did really well in reading. Was much more fluent than the last two sessions.

We began with a sight word warm up.  After that, the student read his assigned reading from last session aloud.  We then played a game reviewing our phonics skill from the previous week.  This game covered the "H brothers" (sh, ch, th, wh) and The student had to practice writing words that including these digraphs.  We then started a new book "Fox and Chicken-to-go".  I left the level 18 reader for him to practice over the week.

Today we covered some three dimensional geometry, aimed at prepping for the subject test, complex numbers, and (co)sine waves. We also spent a substantial amount of time teaching the student a faster technique to multiply binomials. Her homework for the next session is to practice a new technique and to review operations on complex numbers. Next session, she'll take another practice test.

GRE Tutoring review by Drew in Buckeye, AZ
During this session with the student, we went over the full-length practice English section and Math section the student did last week.  We went over every wrong answer and how he could have approached the question in a more effective way.  The student did quite well on his practice Math exam and we just went over a few simple ways to look at problems that will allow the student to move more quickly through the Math Section.  We then looked over his English test.  We spent a lot of time reviewing rules for comma and semi-colon usage and the student seemed to internalize these rules.  Furthermore, once we went over the rules again, the student easily understood where he went wrong on the English questions that he answered incorrectly.

GRE Tutoring review by Nina in Buckeye, AZ
The student and I continued to work from practice tests. She did very well on the writing sections today. I think it's because she felt comfortable with the vocabulary. It might help her to wok through sentence error questions by reading them aloud. It's often much easier to catch an error when you hear a sentence out loud. We will work on this and other techniques in the future. Her math remains good, though she has not yet been taught much of the material at school (e.g. functions and difficult graphing). Sometimes just putting the numbers on paper is an excellent start.

GRE Tutoring review by Aspasia in Buckeye, AZ
The student and I spoke about his goals and what he would like to improve on in terms of his writing. He listed his main difficulties as organization, punctuation, grammar, and professional language. During the session we went over how to use commas appropriately. We also edited session notes that he provided, practicing how to write more concisely, and effectively. He is going to keep a list of "catch phrases" and terms that come up during our sessions, which he can use in future session notes.
