I've really enjoyed my experience with VT. I was feeling very discouraged about taking the GRE again and I wanted to try and boost my score. I think learning from a person is so much better than a book! I feel so much more prepared and I've been telling people about it as well!

We found VT to be incredibly well qualified and were able to get 2 different people for the type of studying my son needed for his GRE studies. They were able to tailor the teaching structure one on one to his needs. He had excellent results, and has since been accepted to grad school.

Session Summaries by GRE Tutors

GRE Tutoring review by Matthew in Arvada, CO
We began by reviewing issues that the student had with the reading comprehension and discussed strategies for her to use going forward. Following this, we spent time going over circle and triangle concepts. After addressing several issues that she had with triangle problems, we discussed the content of an issue essay that she had written. I reassigned the prompt to see how she would rewrite it based on my recommendations. Also, I assigned 20 more reading comprehension problems, and she is to watch several online tutorials on combinatorics to prep for our next session.

GRE Tutoring review by Steven in Arvada, CO
The student and I met for our first session of GRE tutoring. In this session we focused on assessing her current level and going over the test. Right now she would score in the low 150s on the test. We also went over a math and reading section to give her a sense of what they would be like on the test. Finally I introduced the two writing sections and had her read sample passages to see what the test is looking for.

GRE Tutoring review by Brian in Arvada, CO
We focused primarily on math, going through the book on number properties. Things to remember: odd + odd = even; even + odd = odd; oddxodd = odd; oddxeven = even. Also, remember that simplifying complex fractions can be easier by finding the prime factors.

GRE Tutoring review by Gabrielle in Arvada, CO
We spent most of our final session reviewing the student's last practice test. We briefly reviewed exponents and spent some time puzzling over a tricky exponent problem, and then we concluded the session with a review of more vocabulary. He's going to continue to work on practice problems and read through his vocabulary lists over the weekend and email me if he has any last-minute questions. It's been an absolute pleasure to work with him, and I'm so pleased with the improvements I've seen in two short weeks. He's worked very hard, and I expect that he'll do very well on Tuesday's test!

GRE Tutoring review by Tammy in Arvada, CO
Today we reviewed the rest of the geometry section, emphasizing circles and triangles and the necessary formulas. The student will look at the volume equations on his own. He will also look at the data analysis and analytical Writing information from a website and download the practice test software to do one entire practice test before our next meeting. This is essential for practicing pacing and using the computer interface to mark and return to questions. Next time we will go over any questions he has from the practice test, as well as review standard deviation, probability and permutations/combinations.

GRE Tutoring review by Gerard in Arvada, CO
In our first session, the student and I started by getting to know each other and outlining a study plan for her upcoming GRE. We talked about the overall structure of the test, including the timing, types of questions, and content for each section. We then started to go through a practice quantitative section, as she wanted to focus our sessions primarily on the math. We went through some quantitative comparison problems, focusing on the content involved in each specific problem and also the overarching strategies she can use on many of these types of questions. We also started going through some problem solving questions as well. I briefly spoke to her about preparing for the verbal section of the GRE and some things she can start doing to increase her vocabulary. Next time, we will continue working on the math by checking over her homework and potentially start going through some verbal material.
