Yesterday's session was very productive. We began by reviewing the sight words we learned last week. After the review of the words, using worksheets that called for her to print and identify the sight words in sentences, the student was more comfortable with the vocabulary than she was in the beginning of the session. Her confidence in herself and her abilities is growing each time we meet. We used graphic organizers to write down what words were easy to remember and write. Together, we read through the book "Fox in Socks" and the student was able to identify and recall some of her sight words on the pages. She was able to draw her own Fox in Socks, as we took a short break in reading and writing. Afterwards, I gave her a short verbal assessment of her sight words and the sounds that each letter in the words made. She did very well. The student is improving in her reading skills, she just needs to practice writing and reading more frequently one on one.

We did some handwriting practice and the student did a great job with this activity. He remembered how to write all the letters we covered in the past. He also enjoyed a matching game we played on the computer. He also did a fantastic job reading two letter words independently.

We began working on third declension. We talked about "rex, regis" and the nominative which differs for every noun/ adjective. We then discussed how to determine gender in third declension: "us, e, ar, al, men" for neuter, "or, oris" masculine and "tas, tatis, tudo, tudinis, tio, tionis" for feminine. The student then learned new vocabulary and worked on a practice sentence. We ended with a conversation about Old English, Middle English, and Early Modern English. He read an example of each-- a passage from Beowulf, Chaucer, and Shakespeare. We read over words Shakespeare added to the language. Reviewing imperfect (bam, bas, bat) and gender guidelines will help as this chapter adds a lot of new information.
