Session Summaries by GMAT Tutors

GMAT Tutoring review by Mark in Mountainview, CA
Got introduced to the student and talked about her studying goals and when she would be taking the test. Since she is taking another course, I told her that I would wait to come up with a study plan, so she's not being pulled in multiple directions, but we spent the session going through problems on Kinematics and Newton's Laws. I gave her some tips on how to help herself, like always using units and using free body diagrams for force problems.

GMAT Tutoring review by Puneet in Mountainview, CA
We covered fluids and solids in MCAT Physics, both content and practice problems. The student is improving in her ability to recognize MCAT-style answers and how to approach tough problems. With practice and some memorization of formulas, she should be able to perform well on the physical sciences section.

GMAT Tutoring review by Ashten in Mountainview, CA
The student and I met on Saturday to review the electrostatics and electromagnetism material covered in the physical sciences portion of the MCAT. This is the first material that we've encountered that I really observed her feeling uncomfortable with. We went through about ten discrete questions and three passages together, and by the end I could tell that she was getting a better handle of the material. I encouraged her to continue practicing with these topics outside of our sessions, giving her a topical exam and a number of questions in the test prep book with which to do this. I was pleased to see that she brought questions from the assignments I'd given her on kinetics and equilibrium from the previous session. She is definitely working hard and putting in the time to see an increase in her score. Our next session will be Tuesday where we are planning to cover electrochemistry and circuits.

GMAT Tutoring review by Fouad in Mountainview, CA
During this session we reviewed some of the passages from the books that the student had solved on his own. These passages covered topics such as half-life, emission spectra, and periodic trends. We also went over the equation used for determination of half-life and covered the concept in the book. In addition, we solved some examples on half-life and went over the determination of the amount of radioactive decay for any sample.

GMAT Tutoring review by David in Mountainview, CA
During today's session, we spent the first half covering selected topics in the physical sciences. Specifically, we covered review of electrostatics and circuits. We then spent some time covering simple harmonic motion/waves. We did a number of practice problems to apply the concepts to question types likely to be seen on test day. We then spent the second half of the session working on verbal reasoning questions and focused on strategies using a couple of practice passages.

GMAT Tutoring review by Paul in Mountainview, CA
The student and I began our session with a discussion of metabolism, walking through the important details, such as major intermediates; enzymes; products and committed steps of glycolysis, PDC, Krebs cycle, and the electron transport chain. She seemed to have solid background knowledge of these topics and picked up on the major aspects of each quickly. We then worked on a mildly difficult CARS passage together, and she performed very well and was able to quickly recognize any mistakes she made. We finished the session by walking through a couple of examples of organic chemistry and biochemistry test questions.
