We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader. and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

The student and I reviewed his geometry worksheet. It was more of a geometry review of 10 pages. We talked about everything from triangle manipulation and polygon perimeters and areas.

The student has an upcoming test, so we just continued to review for that. We went over more trigonometry questions, often involving real world applications, where you tend to solve for either the angle of a right triangle created in the problem, or the lengths of one of the triangle's sides. I illustrated that even though solving each problem seems different, they are all just three variations of the same thing, which begins by writing a true equation using a trig identity. Lastly, we discussed some review questions that he was given by his teacher that were multiple choice. We also looked at some slightly harder versions of the application problems we had looked at from before.

The student is improving a lot in understanding geometry concepts. He continues to do well on quizzes. He will have a test on Chapter 11 next week, so we reviewed some today and will review more next week. We finished reviewing 11.5 and 11.6 today, and we also previewed for 11.7, finishing Chapter 11.

Geometry Tutoring review by Matjaz in San Marcos, CA
Today we covered the Cartesian/rectangular coordinate system representation of geometric shapes, such as triangles. We also calculated several point-to-point distances using rectangular coordinate system. The student performed a number of calculations of triangle properties in rectangular coordinate system. These included vertex to opposite midsection distance calculation, and midpoint-to-midpoint distance calculation. Student also presented her schoolwork in experimental natural selection involving jelly beans. Only the jelly beans adopted to the environment, and jelly beans with secret power to poison their prey survived and multiplied to large numbers over time. Student is extremely well organized and has positive attitude toward the subjects covered. With word problems, student could improve her ability to translate the specific words in the word problem into well defined geometric objects which she can handle easily. More work on word problems would be most beneficial. In this session, I have suggested paying close attention to each individual word in the problem, to see how some of these words can be quickly translated into the geometric objects. Student will continue working on her Essay on Experimental Darwinism, she wants to clarify some technical terms with the teacher before moving forward with the Essay. In geometry/algebra, I have observed a continuous progress in handling numbers, radicals, brackets, and rational numbers. Student is quick and very good at writing essays and expressing her ideas in writing.
