He had an online assignment to complete, so we started from those 20 problems first. He solved most of the problems very well. Then we moved to a geometry assignment about 12 important polygons name. Questions covered how to figure out interior sum, one interior angle, exterior sum, one exterior angle of a polygon if the number of sides are given. We addressed those questions together to be able to see the formulas we can apply for all polygons. After that, he explained and solved 7 related problems by correctly. That shows me he has very good ability to observe and interpret formulas into other problems and polygons.

The student and I went over his homework assignment. We discussed similar triangles, congruent triangles, and the theorems of angles and triangles. After discussing those problems, we went over probabilities for a little bit.

This session, we focused on transformations, specifically reflections and dilations. The student was having a bit of trouble with reflections, so we looked at them through various methods: we graphed shapes and reflected each point by counting the distance from the axis of reflection, we looked at how a shape would move if we folded the paper along the axis of reflection, and we also used a formula. He is going to continue to practice, and he seemed more comfortable with reflections by the end of the session. Next, we focused on dilations, identifying the scale, and whether the dilation was an expansion or a reduction. At this point, he has not begun to graph dilations. He did very well!

The student and I continued working on circles, chords, secants and their angles. She expressed an extreme dislike for the amount of memorization suggested by her teacher. I showed the student some methods for deriving the formulae from generic example cases. She picked this up very quickly and seems to prefer this method. She is well prepared for her quiz tomorrow and I expect that she will do very well.

Today's session went well. We covered all the concepts that will be on her test tomorrow by going over her test review packet. Some of the concepts we went over were identifying different types of angles, locating and solving for the midpoint, finding the distance between two points, utilizing what we know about angle properties to solve for variables. The student feels very confident in her ability to ace her upcoming test. I was told that one of her geometry teachers commended her on her improvement in the subject matter.

We continued work on geometry, with a focus on the properties of a rhombus and its diagonals. I guided the student through some of her homework problems then gave her additional problems that used the same concepts to test how well she retained the material. I also started reviewing her on algebra (factoring) because her classwork is showing more and more usage of algebra to solve geometry problems. In addition, I introduced to her the idea of previewing upcoming content for her classes. After she finishes her homework for a class for the day, she should spend around 10 minute looking ahead so she knows what's coming up and to help prepare her for the next day's classes.
