In geometry we focused on finding the angles and perimeter of rhombuses using the diagonals which she mastered pretty quickly. We then moved on the chemistry and writing and balancing equations. By the end of the session, she was balancing equations much better on her own. However, we probably will want to revisit the topic next week because we never got to writing the equations from words.

The student has reported that she received an A on the last quiz for section 8.4 but has not received her grade for the Chapter 8 test. She reports that her grade have improved significantly since the tutoring began. Today, since she was caught up with work, I decided to help her advance to learning the next chapter which is Chapter 10. I taught her 10.1 and 10.2. She was able to grasp the concepts well and appears to be prepared for the chapter.

The student received an A on his previous test in special triangles. In this session we worked through several new topics. These included SAS, AA and SSS proofs, proportions, and proportions as applied to triangles and other polygons. He is willing to learn. So he is an easy student to teach. During the session we reviewed each topic and then broke the fundamentals down to easier-to-understand basics, so that he could practice. I assigned him to do the practice problems in his textbook (those that have answers) to get more comfortable with the concepts.

The student and I reviewed the material she's been learning in class the past couple of days- Special Right Triangles and an introduction to Trig. I encouraged her to solve problems and explain her methods as she worked through each problem. She was very open to explaining herself each step. This allowed me to pause her at certain parts and clarify what she was doing. At the end of each problem, she was able to go back and explain the steps to solve each problem. Though she had went over these topics in class, she still felt slightly unsure of how to do problems. This session gave her more practice with what was done in class, but also allowed her to understand core concepts that may not have been clear when being initially taught in class. Great first session! She is very cooperative. She struggles with memorizing rules and formulas, but I've provided her with tips and methods that I will continue to remind her of as we continue.

This was our first meeting. We discussed and worked problems covering areas of quadrilaterals, trapezoids, triangles. The student and I solved equations and a couple of proofs. She has a solid understanding of the material and the equations. We will work on visualizing problems which in turn will bolster her confidence.

The student has a test this week, so we spent the beginning of the session working through the harder problems from the chapter review on similar triangles. We then spent the remainder of the time looking at how some of those same problems might translate into ACT-type questions. The student did well throughout the session. I emphasized the importance of slowing down to make sure he reads the question carefully and avoids small mistakes.
