Session Summaries by French Tutors

French Tutoring review by Shannon in Alexandria, VA
The student is preparing for a test, and we did a breakdown of priority of tasks to focus on(from the test review provided by her teacher.) We reviewed a verb and its conjugations. She was comfortable with saying them, so we focused on strategies to help her with remembering how to spell them. She made a foldable to help quiz herself, and she underlined and made notes by the letters she had trouble remembering how to spell. We focused on patterns with particular sounds and their spelling (ex: "ui" in suis makes a "wee" sound). We also went over the conjugations of the verb 'avoir' and recorded me singing a song to help her remember them. Her homework is to know the song and conjugations by memory and complete an avoir foldable and practice worksheet for our next session.

French Tutoring review by Monica in Alexandria, VA
Today the student and I reviewed the differences between the contexts of two past tenses: the passé compose, and the imperfect tenses. We filled in the blanks on his computer program, constructed sentences, listened to dialogue and monologue, and then chose the appropriate tense for each entry.

French Tutoring review by Jasmine in Alexandria, VA
We went over food more. I taught him the verb boire = to drink, prendre = to have food or drink or to take, and faire = to do, to make. I taught him how to say "I'm hungry" or "thirsty." I had him describe all of his meals so as to practice the food vocabulary.

French Tutoring review by Marla in Alexandria, VA
We went over the work the student had done in her AP book, discussed and reevaluated the pace at which we are working on the book, went over new grammar in her French grammar book, did a quick writing assignment, went over her long writing assignment from the previous week, worked out of my pronunciation workbook, and just chatted in French. She is a very impressive student and learns very quickly!

French Tutoring review by Daniel in Alexandria, VA
The student and I covered both reading and listening today. He did a pretty good job on the listening part. I told him to keep reading and to make sure he takes main ideas out of passages when he reads them. He did a good job today.

French Tutoring review by Randa in Alexandria, VA
We began with the student's writing exercise, which we put on the board. Next, we continued with subjunctive with -re verbs. I asked him to conjugate our target verb rendre in present, passe compose, imperfect, future, conditional, and subjunctive tenses. He did a good job. We also went over plus-que-parfait and futur anterieur with rendre. Then, I asked him to repeat all this with entendre (to hear), a regular -re verb. We finished by working with ouir (to hear), a new target verb. He conjugated it in present, passe compose, and imperfect tenses, and I introduced the future tense.
