Which grade in?

Mr. D. was able to keep my daughter engaged and interested the entire session. He made her feel confident with reading. She stated that he was the "best teacher in the world". She gave him two thumbs up and a heart. I'm very pleased with my investment towards my child's education using Varsity Tutors.

What year in?

I want to thank VT for connecting me with my English tutor. I'm a 49 yr old that enrolled back in college to complete my degree and I was having the most difficult time meeting the demands of my writing assignments. But fortunately, I was matched with an educator that has made what seemed hopeless in my efforts to write academic papers effectively a piece of cake.

I'm very grateful to have found VT. They made the difference between a pass and fail grade for my son. English was one of his most challenging classes and with Varsity Tutors he passed the course. I'm forever grateful.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

English Tutoring review by Jessica in Philadelphia, PA
The student hasn't received his 2 papers back yet so it's hard to gauge our progress but he definitely feels more confident and comfortable with drafting, outlining, brainstorming, and the whole process of writing. His new assignment was a third person narrative story of an event that happened, and he had a LOT of fun describing a night of ill-fated camping. He was obviously much more comfortable writing in this less formal manner and I could see how much fun he was having. He also really enjoyed illustrating points in the story as we went along - and he's a pretty talented artist. I would encourage him to take some art classes if he hasn't already. We wrote up an extremely detailed draft/outline for his paper and he felt really happy with his progress in the end.

I played phonics games online with the student. The games focused on digraphs. He struggled at first, but enjoyed the games. I definitely will continue working with him on digraphs. The student also had some spelling homework. He practiced his spelling list and then I quizzed him. He had no trouble with his spelling list. He also had math homework - adding single digit numbers. The student knows how to add, but occasionally made minor counting errors.

The student had an essay assignment to write about the risks vs. benefits of passing laws against driving while talking on a cell phone. I helped him to find articles on the subject. He then read them to me and I explained any words or concepts he didn't understand.

The student didn't have any homework, but she mentioned her class is working on ACT Writing tests. We went through the process of writing an ACT essay, using a prompt that we created from a rule at the student's school. We worked through the pros and cons list, and the student decided to argue for the side of the issue that she didn't personally believe, but for which we had more support. Then we made an outline and wrote an essay.

English Tutoring review by Cormac in Philadelphia, PA
Today the student started with math homework. After finishing that we worked on the outlines for three authors that are due on Monday. After doing those outlines it was time to leave. I told him to make sure he got his 9 quizzes done for class tomorrow. His father bought him the workbook so he could do the problems tonight and have them ready to turn in tomorrow. He went to see his English teacher today after school and is going to ask her about the coat of arms project and the timeline project tomorrow.
