Elementary mathematics allows your child to develop numeracy skills. The subject focuses on basic math topics such as arithmetic, geometry, and basic algebra. It aims to build problem-solving skills. Elementary math is the foundation of pure mathematics, and this means that it is foundational to applied mathematics and other math-oriented college courses such as actuarial science and quantum mechanics. Mastery of the subject requires your child to understand its concepts and formulas. However, this is not always the case as your child may have a hard time understanding some complex concepts such as the number theory, graphing points, and order of operations. A professional elementary math tutor can try to help your child surmount these challenges. Varsity Tutors could help you locate a qualified elementary math tutor.

Your child can ace the elementary math course if the studies are focused, and guided by a proper study plan. Your elementary math tutor will assist in the creation of a purposeful study plan. Your tutor must first assess the mathematical skills of your child, and pinpoint the weak areas that create a knowledge gap. Your tutor will then tailor the study plan to focus the sessions towards addressing the knowledge gap in a time-efficient way. You can contact us to find you an experienced elementary math tutor in Chapel Hill who can provide a positive environment that may make it easy for your child to learn and understand.

Session Summaries by Elementary Math Tutors

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Taunita in Chapel Hill, NC
I met with this student and worked with reviewing multiplication facts. She is a bright girl and is very excited to work with to improve her math skills. After brief assessment, she demonstrated mastery in multiplication facts up for 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, and 11. She struggles with recall of facts with 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12. To reinforce skill, she played multiplication game. I recorded those incorrect and reviewed with her afterwards. I also reviewed arrays and creating multiplication problems. I recommended reviewing flashcards for factors 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 daily for about 15-20 minutes. This will reinforce the memorization of facts. I look forward to working with her.

Today, the student and I worked on multiplication and subtraction. We did lengthy word problems as well as basic multiplication. After a few minutes, she really picked up on it, and we were able to speed through her homework in twenty minutes! After that, we did a few practice problems and worked on adding and subtracting bigger numbers. She seemed to be very confident! I'm excited to see her progress!

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Francesca in Chapel Hill, NC
We began by reviewing counting by 7's to 77 by memory, and the student did this really well! We reviewed multiplication with 7. She completed a handout that I provided, which reviewed using arrays and helper facts. She was honest in identifying multiplication problems that she has forgotten. We reviewed her blue flashcards from school, which she did great on! We ended by playing a multiplication game with dice that she seemed to really enjoy. Making multiplication a game with a touch of competition seemed to make her more interested in math. We will do this more. She's doing great! I didn't leave her with any extra work this week. I expect that she'll ease back into schoolwork in a few days.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Heather in Chapel Hill, NC
For today's session, the student and I reviewed what we covered from last time. This included converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa and adding mixed numbers. We started with a worksheet, and then we spent the rest of the time practicing with word problems. We just did a review, as she has a quiz on fractions coming up. After review, I gave her a worksheet that summarized mixed numbers and improper fractions due for the next session. She did well as always, maintaining her cheerful personality throughout the session.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Nicole in Chapel Hill, NC
The student had math homework tonight on the associative property with multiplication. He is adjusting to showing his work, since he likes to just work in his head. I brought a highlighter tonight, which he used to highlight the specifics in the word problems. These helped him in solving the problems. Although I am there to work with him, I am also trying to get him to work through the problems on his own some.
