What is your zip code?

We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader. and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Session Summaries by Differential Equations Tutors

Differential Equations Tutoring review by Erica in Boston, MA
Today, we started to cover exact equations, existence and uniqueness theorem, and stability of equilibrium points (all for first order equations). We have just started to enter material that the student hadn't seen previously, so the material particularly dealing with exact equations was a little fuzzier than the other concepts (relatively speaking), but seems in line with what one would be expected to have retained at this point considering the material was first covered either yesterday or today. It looks like 2 sessions/week is going to make good sense for the duration of this course, with possible additional sessions prior to exams.

Differential Equations Tutoring review by Jennifer in Boston, MA
Our first session covered the first two sections of chapter 1 in his course textbook. We went over the definition of an ordinary differential equation, the different types he will encounter in this course, and worked through a few examples of solving a differential equation by substituting in a function, and its derivatives into a provided equation. He then solved a few definite integral problems. I gave him Section 1.2, #25 to complete for homework, which involved integrating an acceleration equation for velocity and then position, in order to determine how far a car traveled before it stopped if the driver slammed on their brakes while traveling 60 Km/hr.

Differential Equations Tutoring review by Hassan in Boston, MA
Went over homework beginning with undetermined coefficient problems for linear, second order DE's. Worked over a few homework problems with this method. Began to work on variation of parameters method with one solution already given. Followed up with email homework assistance.

Differential Equations Tutoring review by David in Boston, MA
We covered integration by parts; this was an issue that cost him points on his exam, and the TA or professor explicitly mentioned it. We also worked on 1st order ODE problems.

Differential Equations Tutoring review by Youcef in Boston, MA
Met with the student online. She has a test on Monday and she wanted to go over few problems she had already sent me. What we did: We solved 3 problems that involved the same methodology of solving a linear system of two first order differential equations. All the problems had Geometric Multiplicity of higher than 1. We setup up the problems, found eigenvalues and generalized Eigenvectors and solved the system. We plotted state space loci. We solved a problem of tdx/dt=Ax and I showed her how to go about it. The method works for non-repeated Eigenvalues but took an AR to work on the result when one of the eigenvalues is repeated. My Action Items: Schedule one more session. Work on the repeated Eigenvalue in the case of tdx/dt=Ax and explain it to her. Student's Action Items: Send me her class notes so I can stay within what they covered in class. This will help me stay focused on the material covered in class except when she needs further understanding of concepts and steps. Her work ethic is very impressive. She pays close attention to details and asks great questions. She definitely deserves a big hats off to her. Keep it up.
