We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader. and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Session Summaries by Computer Science Tutors

Computer Science Tutoring review by Jared in Folsom, CA
The student and I worked on the lab that is currently being worked on by her class. We added methods to the cards class for dealing a card, as well as printing the entire deck. We also completed a lab together where she is being asked to scramble and unscramble pairs of words using recursion.

The student and I met to begin working on his "trap the dot" program and discussed concepts such as controllers, helper functions, getters/setters, 2D arrays, and more. He is intelligent and was engaged and asking lots of great questions during our session. I was impressed with his performance overall.

Computer Science Tutoring review by Edward in Folsom, CA
This is an excellent student, and we've managed to cover sorting (bubble, selection, insertion, merge, quick), touched on their respective runtimes, and a little bit of program flow since then. We mainly worked on the AP Computer Science lab curriculum, working with their provided code and exercises. She seems to grow more comfortable each week.

Computer Science Tutoring review by Matthew in Folsom, CA
This session was devoted to some free-response work (both from a text and from me) on searching and sorting. The student did need some coaching for writing her own implementation of a selection sort. She will need to redo the work alone as well. She implemented a binary search well.

Computer Science Tutoring review by Nickolas in Folsom, CA
In this session we went over constructor classes (how to create, define, fill with data, initialize, create private data values, define mutator methods, and overload). We covered the string java api methods and how to use them/ applications of them for free response. We covered class hierarchy in constructor classes and the api. We also covered searches and runtime for multiple choice questions. Finally we covered double dimensional arrays and how to access the information in them, define them, and modify them, along with covering how indexes work in java. She is going to be taking an api practice test before next session so we will go over parts she doesn't understand from that as well as doing two free-response questions.

Computer Science Tutoring review by Gregory in Folsom, CA
We actually worked on math instead of computer science this evening. The majority of the student's homework was about simplifying and solving equations containing logarithms. He seemed to remember a fair amount of what we discussed last time we worked together, and after some prompting, he was able to do many of the problems on his own. We managed to get through the entire packet he was given in addition to a few problems he had to make up on late work. I think he felt much more comfortable with logarithm problems by the time we were finished, and we had a very productive session overall.
