How can Chemistry tutoring help you?

For assistance with your chemistry course in Sacramento, contact Varsity Tutors' educational directors today. They'll match you to a pool of qualified tutors who may work with you to develop a program of study that suits your needs. Whether you want help reviewing the difference between ionic and covalent chemical bonds or you just need someone knowledgeable to prepare for tests and quizzes with, an expert chemistry tutor in Sacramento, CA, may help you stay ahead in your course.

Unlike regular teachers who have to divide their attention across an entire class, your tutor may be entirely focused on you. He or she may work with you to assess your chemistry knowledge, find the weak spots, and plan sessions that may address the difficulties you're having. Even if you're doing well in your class, the right tutor may make sure you stay challenged and do your best. Like most learning, the study of chemistry is a process of stacking knowledge. Fall behind on electronegativity, and you're going to have big problems when your teacher wants you to use it to measure bond polarity.

Session Summaries by Chemistry Tutors

Chemistry Tutoring review by Julia in Sacramento, CA
It's our last session and we've come a long way. I did some more nuclear and organic chemistry with him, because I feared that his class would not get to those topics at the rate they've been going. I think he's ready.

Helped the student to prepare for her chemistry final tomorrow by going through her study guide and hand-written notes on key topics that will be tested. Worked through some practice problems and true/false questions on concepts.

Chemistry Tutoring review by Katherine in Sacramento, CA
During this session, we finished going through the student's final review packet. We spent quite a bit of time reviewing redox reactions. Her comfort level in assigning oxidation numbers and identifying reduction vs. oxidation reactions increased. We practiced balancing equations by using half-reactions. She seemed comfortable balancing the electrons in each half reaction. We also did quite a bit of review with pH and pOH calculations. When we finished the review, I helped the student answer some questions on the thermochemistry test.

Chemistry Tutoring review by Andrew in Sacramento, CA
We went over stoichiometry, wavelength and frequency of light, ideal gas law, writing balanced equations, chemical nomenclature, and combustion reactions. The student was very communicative when studying all of these subjects and picked up on them quite well. He did have to be reminded a few times about some simple material (subscripts vs coefficients in chemical equations), but has a good grasp on the concepts we covered.

Chemistry Tutoring review by Leah in Sacramento, CA
The student just began the calorimetry unit and we worked on related problems for the first hour. The student breezed through them pretty well, with only a few confusing moments relating to problem set-up. This unit is great to work on because it incorporates the concepts of heat flow during reactions AND stoichiometry. We then went over a pre-lab with problems & questions for the last half hour. I am really impressed with the student's progress since I began meeting with him as these problems are gradually becoming more and more second nature to him. Which is extremely important since he has a final in a month. I plan to work with him more on problem set-ups in future sessions and help him review previous units to better prepare him for the final.
